In the twenty years since the vampires rose up out of the earth, Corado hasn’t done too bad for himself. He’s still alive, for one, and he’s got a lucrative trade as a nightrunner smuggling people beneath the vampiric horde that blots out the sky each night. It's dangerous work, but enough to get a roof over his head and a bottle in his hand at the end of the day. That’s pretty good for life under the vampires.

Then an attack from the horde leaves him stuck in the desert, alone with a newly-orphaned boy, and his luck finally dries up. He resolves to find what remains of the boy’s family and put it all behind him—but instead of taking him off Corado’s hands, his so-called “family” offers a new deal: escort them to the vampiric capital in exchange for a veritable fortune.

Corado knows he shouldn’t. It’s a long, dangerous route, and the group has a smack of sedition to them that he knows firsthand to be a quick way to a bloody death.

It is a hell of a lot of money, though.

Text: Corado is just trying to survive the night—every night. Being a nightrunner, one of the few brave or foolish enough to defy humanity's vampire masters to traffic himself and others across barony lines, doesn't make it any easier though. With vampire posses stalking the desert during the day and their ravenous Horde filling the sky each night, it's a miracle he's survived as long as he has. Some of it he chalks up to skill, some to instinct, but he knows that when the dawn comes, the main thing seeing him through the night is good old-fashioned luck.

Nothing lasts forever though, and Corado's lucky streak soon comes to a quick and bloody end. After nighttime attack from the Horde leaves him stranded in the desert with a newly-orphaned boy named Hectar, he finds keeping the rest of the world at bay may not be as easy as he thought. Newfound companion in tow, he sets out to find what remains of the boy's family and finally put the whole thing behind him.

But as he knows by now, no job is ever so simple. As he tries to escort Hectar to safety, whispers of rebellion start drifting on the wind. With a world free of the Horde beginning to look like a real possibility, Corado must face vampires, twisted monstrosities, and the darkness lurking in men's hearts before he decides whether the world he's cut himself out of is one worth fighting for after all.

When a shape-changing assassin nearly kills the Mother on Niozene’s watch, she officially runs out of time to impress. She is stripped of her titles and given a choice: return with the assassin’s head, or face excommunication—banishment from both her homeland and the afterlife. Desperate, she accepts the task as her last chance to show the Mother she deserves a place as her daughter.

Allowed only the help of another excommunicated criminal, a surly, aged tracker named Sonsan, and facing an assassin who could be anyone, she dreads her chance is over before it starts. But when Sonsan reveals the same shape-changing power as the assassin, she realizes there is more to her quest than she has been told. Cozy hallmark vibes meets sabotage and suspense

The week before Christmas, failed restaurateur Adelaide returns to her small hometown fleeing her failures. She craves solitude and anonymity, but she’s quickly thrust to the forefront of rescuing the town’s Christmas feast.
