so much of news now is terrified to call a spade a spade, and thinks “digging tool” is enough. it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of journalism and it’s killing democracy in the United States.

A way to feel like both an all powerful technogod and an absolute ecological disaster is to get a 3d printer and print out a whole homelab frame and then use claude to help you quickly set up a whole new workflow in docker.
Many data centers being built don't even have confirmed customers? and they're also just giant server rooms. they bring a large increase in jobs during construction and then not after and because many don't even have confirmed customers there's a real chance they could sit empty/unused.

the company that was really good at helping you find information has decided to be the company that lets you fabricate new information and I’m not sure Google realizes how fundamentally different and potentially dangerous that is.

Folks would be surprised how often "people just stopped caring about governance after a bunch of rich people took power" has led to the downfall of republics. like western civilization is really good at this one terrible trick.

Its power waned for the usual, mundane reasons: widening gap between rich and poor, inability to maintain infrastructure, incompetent leadership, pointless wars, endless persecution of marginalized groups who performed vital labor, etc.
i had to remove myself from Democrat mailing lists, including for the national party, because every single email was just a request for money. No calls for any other kind of involvement. and they all looked like scam emails

went to Larry McMurtry’s bookstore in Archer City and it’s a work in progress as they rebuild collection but god damn does it rule. Just a stunning amount of all kinds of books and also VHS???? But they also need funding and said “that would be a dream” when I asked if they’re digitizing the tapes.
Saw Poughkeepsie Tapes at Buttnumbathon one year and it was so bad the filmmakers fled the theater before it finished.

the reason I love comics and mythology is they are stories being repeatedly retold and every person who adapts them is trying to say something (disney excepted). The Odyssey is a Nolan flick both good and bad, but what I found most fascinating was where he changes the story to tell his own. Terrific

the vast majority of people simply do not care about the wider world unless it is directly affecting them. AI datacenters are facing a backlash because they’re a scapegoat for actual frustrations with capitalism. people don’t see oil and gas as evil, they see Zuck and Elon as evil.
