Never forget that 9/11 was the first time Americans of all colors and creeds heard stuff like "HOLY FUCKING SHIT" repeatedly on national TV news because nobody in newsrooms could be bothered to bleep out words from witness videos

Porn bots have been swarming one of my recent spider posts on Instagram. I just realized why. In the caption I wrote "Male spiders collect sperm from the genital opening with the pedipalps and then use them to inseminate the female."
Success. My tarantula safely completed her molt in under three hours. Molted exoskeleton (left) and the recovering patient with her new coat (right). #spiders #SpiderSky #BugSky
My tarantula has started the molting process. Suddenly she is lying flat on her back (which always looks spooky) as hemolymph pressure builds to a point where the old exoskeleton starts to split on the dorsal side. Front section comes out first; then the abdomen; then the appendages, the tricky part
I think my tarantula will soon molt her exoskeleton. She has secluded herself in her lair with a thin layer of silk across the entrance. Her prior molt was just over a year ago, so the time seems right.
A friend just moved into a new house and found bedbugs, and I don't know whether to feel concerned or excited
Special treat for my Asian giant forest scorpion: a giant cockroach. That'll keep him busy for a while. #BugSky #scorpions
A followup to "Silent Spring" could be "Silent September." Tree crickets and katydids used to make a nightly chorus of chirping, trilling, and rasping from August through October in my leafy part of the Boston area. This year the tree canopy is mostly silent. Insect declines continue everywhere.

Visited my funnel-weaver #spiders (genus Agelenopsis). September is the mating season. I believe this female just molted to adulthood, which is why her abdomen is a little thin.
So hey, I run this account, screenshots of my favorite movie, because it makes me feel calm. "That Darn Cat" (Disney, 1965)
I feel so torn about nuclear war. On one hand, I hate the ecological and biological catastrophe it would unleash on nature. On the other hand, I would love to be instantly vaporized.
The pet cockroaches I keep in the office reproduced in July. It's hard to get a tally of the offspring but I counted 8 today with perhaps a few others in hiding. They're thriving. Some have already molted to (I think) the third instar. That's at least 10 roaches, including the adult male and female.
[flashlight dies in deepest part of haunted catacombs] "Ugh. Mondays, right?"
Rapid burial under a thick stratum of muddy sediment is the classic recipe for fossilization. Some of the deceased humans in Nepal may become part of the fossil record of our hominid species.
Cats get balance right: live to the fullest 4 to 6 hours a day and sleep through the rest
I don't understand doomsday preppers. The whole point of an apocalypse is that we all get a free easy way out.
The Three Stooges just annihilated a public telephone booth. #MeTVThreeStooges
The Three Stooges struggle so much with basic functioning that they can't even use a phone booth without getting into a really weird and stupid predicament. #MeTVThreeStooges

The xenomorph in Alien (1979). She is doing so well: feeding herself, growing, maturing, the perfect organism, her structural perfection matched only by her hostility; a survivor, unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. And then Ripley just blows her ass out into space.
Name a character who deserved better.
My #FridayFeeling is like that of British mountaineer George Herbert Leigh Mallory (b. 1886), who boldly attempted the first summit of Everest in 1924 and disappeared
We men just cannot get a break from having to think about the Roman Empire every day
Imagine a US president who spends his time writing orders to change the name of Lake Ontario to "Lake America." The USA under the conservative, Republican establishment elite is like the Roman Empire in its degenerate phase when plutocrat madmen cavorted about, made their horses senators and so on.
Proposal to rename Lake Erie to Lake Eerie because Americans are creeping everyone tf out
