Beautiful things I have seen today The dog was SO old you guys #cartoon #dogs #comic

An old man in a green striped shirt and khakis leads an equally ancient short fat dog on a leash. The dog’s tail is wagging and he looks proud. The old man holds a bundle of good sticks.

Meant to post this a while back and never did— so here it is! Some #characterdesign #art I did a while back, of a psychopomp character in a current worldbuilding project

I love drawing my little objects #mylittleobjects #drawing #conceptart

Digitally painted renditions of seven objects: a loaf of glossy bread, an apple, an egg, a cube of rough stone, a chunk of metallic ore, a bottle containing a blue effervescent liquid, and a luminous green chunk of crystal.

Some recent life drawing sketches— ngl, I kind of miss doing traditional medium art! #sketchbook #traditionalart #drawing

Three traditional art studies— one of two hands gently touching, one of a left hand holding a reflective metal whiskey stone, and one of two baby feet

Some concept art I got a chance to work on lately for a comic world I’ve had in the works for some time :3 #art

A wide, green field stretches wide, fading into rolling hills and mist. The field is studded with abandoned statues and monuments, half buried in the earth and overgrown with plants and moss— a woman with half of a staff sculpted in chipped bronze whose features are worn away and covered in patina, a horses head and foreleg rearing out of the ground with one hand holding its reins, its metal long gone green and blue. In the foreground sits a three story tall crumbling stone statue of a torso, head half broken off. On its shoulder is perched a small figure in a wide hat, casually sitting and holding a staff with bells tied to its end. In the center of the valley, between statues, rests a large flock of fuzzy white sheeplike creatures with long ears and snuggly snouts. One braces a foot against the closest statue, looking up at its shepherd. Another rests close to us on the hill. In the shadow of the statue, a large, furry, horse-dragon-creature rests curled up. Far in the distant sky, three winged creatures fly by.

Some #conceptart / #creaturedesign from this week— I do love designing a #bioluminescent beastie.

A spread of creature design concepts— one is a massive, bear like creature with hulking shoulders, a ridges spine, long tusks, and a trailing tail. Its tusks are draped with glowing lichen and its coat is spotted with blue glowing moss. The second is a caribou-like creature, mid-run. Its antlers are huge, and have round spaces in the thickest parts, and connect to the nose as well as forehead. The lichen in its antlers and in its coat are similarly glowing. The last is a small alien plant, which looks like the branch of a pine tree growing out of the ground. The ends of each part of the branch are rounded and club-like, and dotted with glowing blue berries nestled between the needles.

Individual process photos follow.

It is once again time for Dog Feelings

I think all I ever really wanted / was to feel safe

A skeleton of mismatched animal bones — a coyote with elk antlers, sighs apart, tinged with moss. Its jaws are open and inside its ribcage, an anatomical heart glows faintly red.

Vic McKenzie @creatureincave.bsky.social · 3y ago

you’ve got a frightened rabbit for a heart

A white hare leaps or perhaps falls downward in a dark void, eyes and claws golden and head surrounded by a golden halo.

What happens to a house, when it is left alone? (Anatomy fanart)

A tv screen, bright red, glows in the foreground, with glitched text reading “you never came back.” A long trail of wires snakes back behind it, into the front door of an old, decrepit house that looms in the dark behind.

“Oh Griddle— but I don’t even remember about you half the time.” She really didn’t— until she did.

Harrowhark from the Locked Tomb trilogy lies in a vomit stained hospital gown, face painted with blood, curled around Gideon’s sword and a halo of shattered glass behind her. Text reads “oh, but Griddle— I don’t even remember about you half the time.”

One flesh, one end. Some Locked Tomb fanart for y’all— heaven help these poor children, these last shadows of the Ninth

Gideon and Harrow from the Locked Tomb trilogy stand back to back, impaled together by an object that on Harrow’s side is a golden spear, and in Gideon’s side is an iron fence post. Above them, text reads “and nothing had ever gone right after that, never ever.”

walk slow and low on the tightrope

A coyote walks along a powerline over rooftops in silhouette, as though along a tightrope— the sky it is silhouetted against is blood red.

Vic McKenzie @creatureincave.bsky.social · 3y ago

The quiet fear of hallowed creatures.

Six opalescent deer standing in dark misty woods surround a seventh— the seventh’s head is a deep dark black, with two glowing eyes and a halo, alert and staring directly at the viewer.

Aha, a new corner of the internet for me to put my little drawings in
