Hahulia is back!! A few years ago I was reading an article about the animals that used to be common in Belarus yet came to be considered extinct in the modern day. Desman was on that list and I was terribly sad about it. But they seem to be coming back now, for the first time in 40 years!

Title of a news article that reads: "Extinct-in-Belarus desman spotted in Sozh basin for first time in 40 years."Picture of a desman. Not the one that's been found, but very cool nonetheless.

I have spent most of my adult life reading digital books, but at the beginning of 2026 I finally started buying physical books as well. I really missed this feeling of holding a printed book.. I also have less trust in the preservation of digital media these days. Here's my little collection so far.

Photo of a row of books inside a bookshelf. Half of these are novels by Ursula K. Le Guin and Susanna Clarke, that I already know and love. The rest are the ones I still need to get to, including two books by Umberto Eco, Orlando by Virginia Woolf, Lud-In-The-Mist by Hope Mirrlees, and a collection of stories by Edgar A. Poe. There are also three encyclopedias about flowering plants, insects, and historical costumes. There are also little figurines of four rabbits guarding the books.

I won't be able to participate in MYSTober but I want to try drawing something Myst-related anyway. Soon? Two of my coworkers came down with the flu, so I have extra shifts now and even less free time for drawing than usual. I'll do my best to finish at least one illustration this month...
