Studying the Victorian connection between women and birds is great fun, but I’d love a job. Network & Development Officer for VPFA and Co-Reviews Editor for VPFJ. All views my own.
Loved this roundtable with Claudia, Mariaconcetta, Helena, and Julia! “‘Gendered Narratives of The Easts’: Research Methods and Pedagogical Applications” left me with a lot to think about. Thank you so much! #BAVS2026
Most Victorians read poetry in periodicals instead of in book form. Alison Chapman is leading the following database 👇 3 projects over 29 periodicals: - index - encoded editions - personography #BAVS2026

How do we think about measuring impact? Social media can actually be a really useful tool (she says, writing on BlueSky 🤣)! Really enjoying hearing from Mary Shannon and Bob Nicholson about public engagement! #BAVS2026
Listening to Clare, Claudia, and Sarah talk about pathways to readership and professorship, and I feel like there’s so much good info here for PGRs and ECRs as well. Already thinking of new VPFA professional development panels! #BAVS2026
And #RSVP2027 will be hosted next year at…the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre of Carleton University in downtown Ottawa! 🇨🇦
Did you know that the smallest cemetery in Dublin is located inside the walls of Trinity College? #RSVP26
Fascinating workshop on the Curran Index led by @vicmanch.bsky.social. This is a fab list of resources. I think it opens up conversations about accessibility and how we can make resources more affordable/accessible to larger audiences as well!
There’s something so satisfying about seeing a pretty presentation slide 🤣 If you’re undecided on which panel to attend this morning, might I suggest Panel 3E? 🥰 #RSVP26 #PrintInMotion
Ummm we get to have our welcome drinks in HERE?! I feel like I’m walking into the halls at Oxford again! #RSVP26 #PrintInMotion
Anelise: famine reporting was 'out of time' in that a story is not published immediately, rather it is withheld until it is politically useful, according to the agenda of a particular newspaper. #RSVP2026 #PrintInMotion
I would love to attend lectures from all of the three panellists I’ve just listened to at #RSVP26: Laurel Brake, Anelise Hanson Shrout, and Anne-Marie Millim. I took a ridiculous amount of notes and can’t wait to mull over these ideas tonight. #PrintInMotion
Pre #RSVP tomorrow, I took a Book of Kells tour (and saw Gaia!) and did a sunset bus tour of Dublin. So ready for the conference to start! #PrintInMotion
Getting ready to travel to Dublin for the annual #RSVP2026 #PrintInMotion conference! Paper is finalised (two days before, oops) and my slides are done, so I’m ready to go! 🇮🇪
Can you imagine trying to de-anonymise 22 Victorian sensation novels? Because Janine Hatter can! What an amazing project 😱 #VPFAPublics
@andrewkingc19.bsky.social talking about how Victorians marketed Pop Fiction - and I’m very excited to learn more about Victorian marketing, particularly design and product placement! Makes me think of my trawling through Punch for crumbs of context! #VPFAPublics
Starstruck 🤩 Got to meet one of my academic heroes today and hear her amazing keynote on sex work and care work in Victorian Pop Fiction. How can we be more caring and sympathetic in our community social care systems? #VPFAPublics @tara-macdonald.bsky.social
On days like today (hot! 🥵), I want to be out on the lake again x
A thing I remember every time I interact with them is that librarians and archivists should be making one million dollars per year.
Learning about William Holman Hunt’s orientalist religious works set in front of this beautiful backdrop. Absolute perfection. #VPFAPublics
A great reminder from Dr Jennifer Jones in her session on creating good writing habits this morning. I spend far too much time trying to have the ‘perfect’ first draft, which often results in unfinished projects. Reflecting on how I can ‘un-perfect’ my process at #VPFAPublics ✍🏻
I’m sure the @vpfa.bsky.social acct can put out a call asking people to share!
As it was a hands-on session I got ppl to make a zine page in the last 30 mins exploring how they thought thought the Victorians had helped them with their teaching through practice, values or approaches. #vpfapublics peeps if you see this please do share you pages here. I would love to see them!
WE HAVE AVOCET NEWS!!! An Avocet spotted at RSPB Middleton Lakes has been confirmed as the oldest ever recorded in the UK. At 36 years old, it's lived more than five times longer than the species' average lifespan. First ringed in 1990, it's still out there doing Avocet things. Go on Avocet. 😍
