New June daily temperature records heading into the record books

A new UK and England June daily temperature record of 38°C has been verified by the Met Office’s site weather assessment team, higher than the 37.7°C figure previously reported.

Fuck off Burlands Farm If it's not surging then there's a decent chance of it reaching 37°C by late afternoon, with the reiteration of course that Burlands Farm tends to peak fairly early at the 3pm window, so even if it reaches 35 - 36°C by then there's no guarantee it goes any higher.

ok someone tell Burlands Farm to chill. I know it's a bit of a microclimate but even with that in mind it's a bit outside of the designated hotspot today (more East Anglia area), so I wouldn't rule out station error at this point.

Wednesday is shaping up to be a very hot and sunny day across most of England we can anticipate a max of 35C near London. The NW/SE divide is very strong in Glasgow tomorrow afternoon will consist of persistent rain and pitiful 15C high.

The best way to bring down the welfare bill is to introduce a real living wage, stop the privatisation of the NHS so less people are left chronically ill, and revoke the pension triple-lock. But that would go against all of the party's vested interests, so instead we're back to scrounger-bashing.

This isn't good news and would almost certainly lead to a Con-RefUK coalition if translated to electoral results. Luckily this is completely meaningless anyhow. To be completely fair (and I don't want to undermine the severity of this): The previous hottest day on record looks like it also occurred in winter. In fact a lot of the hotter nights seem to have actually occurred in the "winter". So this happening in winter may be a climatic quirk.

I've never seen anything like it. Salta, Argentina, has just recorded its hottest night on record during the climatologically coldest time of the year. The minimum overnight temperature did not fall below 26°C (78.8°F), pulverizing the previous monthly record by 7°C.

Isolated slow-moving thunderstorm cells have developed across mid and north Devon and north Cornwall ⛈️ These could give locally torrential downpours, frequent lightning and 20mm or more of rain in under and hour this evening, before decaying later.

One more thought on this before I go: It seems like the Met Office needs some basic PR training. They make so many, in my view, rookie mistakes when it comes to public relations. Get some Gen Zs who speak fluent Internetese in charge of the social media accounts and schedule.

A change to slightly cooler weather is now underway 📉 Winds switch to a northerly direction by Friday with parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland seeing a notable drop in temperatures. Conversely, a warmer day to come on some North Sea coasts as the wind backs.

Hurn "the Hurnea", eastern Dorset saves the 30°C run yet again. Looks like tomorrow and Friday will see 30°C again, after which temps will noticeably drop. Even after that though, daily maxes will be considerably above average, especially in the west. This has August 1995 written all over it.

I'm a boomer and have millennial and gen-z daughters who understand why we have vaccines and believe in them. It's not a generational thing. It's an intelligence, critical thinking, feelings over facts thing.

We should have learned that you can’t manage a public health crisis by ignoring it. Politicizing science and weakening disease surveillance doesn’t make threats disappear, it only makes us less prepared to respond.
