I got a bill in the mail for my kid's ER visit a few weeks ago. (He's ok, btw.) I didn't really react (I knew more or less what it would be), but he saw the amount on the bill and started crying. Hugged me and said over and over, "I'm sorry, mommy. I didn't mean to get sick." That's sad, y'all. 😔
My second book is out. 🥳 I think back 20 years ago when I was a new bilingual teacher and how hard it was to find parity between Spanish & English resources. I hope my books fill a gap. When Jeff and @whitneylarocca.bsky.social's original Patterns of Power came out in 2017, I was obsessed.

I'm tired of walk-throughs in education. I only want to do sit-downs. As in walk into a classroom, and sit down with a student who might need a little extra support with the lesson. Every thing you want to see standing up can be seen while sitting down next to a kid.

I'm constantly reminded of how the most awesome people can be found working in schools. Today, on the first Monday of summer break, a bunch of teachers gathered in the library of our school to think through how we can better meet the needs of students. The work never stops.

My oncologist and I said goodbye today. She said that I’ve graduated from needing her care. Bittersweet, as she is my favorite doctor. Had a little cry in the car. I’d love to never have to return to the cancer center.

I woke up from a dream where I was teaching a lesson on decoding words and I couldn’t explain why the word “promise” doesn’t follow the silent e pattern. Anyway, if you want to know… it’s because of its French origin. Looked it up. So, if you were wondering, that’s what teachers dream about.
I have a rule when I’m out in the world. You see someone you know; you say hi. Happened today. Glad we chatted. I’m reminded of some important work we need to do in community.
