I think this is part of the reason college town / SF NIMBYs are so psychotic. Having a big old Victorian like 3 blocks from a muni line and a mile from the beach is awesome. Like world historical levels of amenity hoarding. They know how good they have it and they don’t want to share!

Love this! And it's important to know that this isn't just about cities--people living in rural areas need these housing choices too.
I'm from a semi-rural area of MI. My aunt and uncle's farmhouse is a duplex. They were able to weather the 80s affordability crisis by moving family into the 2nd unit and splitting the cost of housing. The BUILD Plan re-legalizes this in IL so that families can again have choices about how they live
This is so good.
“When “just not there” is a neighborhood’s answer regardless of what is proposed or who it might help, the problem isn’t location. It’s whether the city is willing to build housing at all.” - @jaredfritz.bsky.social www.smilepolitely.com/opinion/an-o...
If it weren't for duplexes, I wouldn't be here! My mom's grandma lived in a duplex and my dad's aunt lived in the other unit. They got to talking about the young adults in their family who were single, and the rest is history. Allow more missing middle! #BUILDItUp @abundanthousingil.bsky.social
Pass the BUILD Plan!
Illinois is facing a growing housing affordability crisis and we won’t solve it without building more homes. The BUILD Plan (HB 5626; SB 4060, 4061, 4062, 4063, 4064, and 4071) is a comprehensive pa...
