There are many holly thickets in my woodland. They serve a purpose and are important. But the oaks and hazel coppices are more important. Here's a before and after of clearing out space around this early mature oak and hazel stool.

I'm feeling very heavily drawn towards garden aesthetics at the moment. This large oak cookie from a two hundred year old oak is patiently waiting to be worked into a table top. So in the mean time, it's now a table for a young oak sapling.
Nothing, and I mean nothing moves my two cats (even if they're asleep) faster than me attempting to eat some venison. As soon as the knife makes the first cut, there's two thumps ( buh-dump, duh-dump) and my little raptors are in the kitchen. DAD DAD DAD. I plan to eat 250g. I actually eat 190g.
