According to Miyamoto, the emblem on Mario's hat was supposed to be an N for "Mr. Nintendo". Unfortunately, while he was designing Mario, he was using a permanent marker and sneezed while drawing, making it look closer to the letter M. "It was the worst mistake in my life, ever."

During a visit to a Renaissance fair, Shigeru Miyamoto claims he saw a group engaging in live action role-play. He cites this event as an inspiration for Legend of Zelda. "They looked sad and pathetic in public. I wanted to harness that fantasy without making a fool of myself."

With the addition of UFO abductions to Fortnite's 16th season came in studio controversy via a probing animation. This would fully restore your health and shields, however, the animation was cut due to being too graphic after Donald Mustard saw it and called it "Not very Epic."

Surrounding the release of Hatris (1990), Alexey Pajintov struggled to relay the mechanics of the game to interviewers. When asked about how to score points, Alexey said "That's what the hatris! That's what the point of the hatris." It's assumed this was broken in translation.

Hidden in the files of Game Builder Garage, there's an unused node called "Corkler". This node had many general functions, all of which require complex understanding of computer sciences. This would have made the game Turing complete, and it is currently unknown why it is unused.

A shelved April Fools' build of Minecraft changed the blocks to have random sets of pegs and holes, akin to a jigsaw puzzle; you could only fit certain blocks together if the pegs fit the holes. This was canned, as Mojang realized every block would have 64 peg/hole variations.

Pearl & Marina were originally based on rap-duo “Outkast”. The two met with Nintendo over the usage of their likeness, but the meeting ended abruptly due to a "bad fishing pun". André 3000 later stated in an interview “they wanted to call us ‘The Out-Casts.’ It made me sick.”

In Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, despite an elder giving the player a silver sword for Hardin, he doesn't have a high enough sword level to use it. This foreshadows that his "sword" is too small, causing his wife to leave him, and causing the main conflict in FE: New Mystery.
