OTD in 1864, the extremely underrated Battle of Monocacy was fought in Frederick County, Maryland. Gnl. Lew Wallace slowed Gen. Early just long enough for Gnl. Grant to reinforce the capital which is why Monocacy is called “The Battle that Saved Washington.” It’s a great visit, too!
