Post by Troggie on mastodon, Today is ‘there will come soft rains day’. A short story by Ray Bradbury, 1950…A lone automated house still functions after its owners and presumable the rest of humanity were wiped out by a nuclear blastIn the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces
of perfectly browned toast, eight eggs sunny side up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two
cool glasses of milk.
"Today is August 4, 2026,
" said a second voice from the kitchen ceiling,
"in the city of
Allendale, California.
" It repeated the date three times for memory's sake.

BRAND NEW DAY is huge so time for my biggest nitpick: I don’t think Spider-Man should use an AI client especially in a movie without the Daily Bugle. This Peter is great but is not a journalist which DOES explain some of his ethical lapses, but not in a way Marvel intended.

After my parents were visiting set for the first time, I asked my dad what he thought. He said “I didnt realize, it’s like you’re building a house, and once an hour good looking people run in and put on a play for five minutes. Then they leave and you go back to construction.”

People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...

WATCH IT. Next week on the @starlogmedia.bsky.social podcast we have Axelle Carolyn, the director of this episode, as a guest and we go full spoilers so do the homework.

S4E2 is now streaming! “The Griffin Incident” was written by @robbiethompson.bsky.social and directed by Axelle Carolyn. They made a tale of sci fi horror that takes La’An, Spock, and Kirk onto a ghost starship that will leave neither of them, or the audience, the same afterward. Beware! And watch!

Read two mixed Spider-Man reviews this morning and one accused it of having too much going on and the other accused it of having no forward momentum for Peter, so it’s gonna be a normal one this week.

I very much like this pivot in tone and visuals for Spider-Man. This one finally feels like a movie about Peter living in Marvel’s New York in a way the other Spider Movies haven’t been able to. Would love if this was Spider-Man’s non-Avengers gear for the foreseeable future.

Watched the AI Odyssey clip before I knew what it was. By that I mean that it was Grok and Musk tweeted it. It’s incredibly easy to spot as AI since the armor has different bevels in different shots and the hair never gets wet. If you get to the dialogue, the eye lines don’t match. Just clown stuff.
