Private copying means making a copy of something that is copyright-protected for your own use  – from taking photos of artwork in a gallery on a phone, to recording and storing a clips of a TV programmes 📱🖼️📺 If only there was a way to pay creators for this? 🤔👇

AI should work for creators - not the other way around 🎨🤖 DACS has backed a call from Björn Ulvaeus, President of CISAC and co-founder of ABBA, for artists and creators to be fairly paid when their work is used to train AI systems.

"Artists must have a say when their work is used for AI, and they must be paid fairly." Speaking to @theartnewspaper.bsky.social, DACS CEO Christian Zimmermann called for stronger copyright enforcement, greater transparency and fair licensing for creators.

IFRRO (the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations) is gathering insights from authors, publishers, visual artists and collective management organisations for a new study exploring the market impact of AI on text and image-based works.

While we wouldn’t recommend waiving fees, it’s important that artists have the knowledge to make informed decisions. Even if no payment is involved, a clear written agreement can help you understand how your work will be used and protect your rights 🛡️
