40 years ago this week, my nemesis Bleecker Bob sold me the first copy off the plane from London of this dreadful LP. Unlike all of the other imports that Bleecker Bob mocked me for buying from him during this era, his low opinion of this one was accurate and his mockery was entirely deserved.

The licence to publish and to distribute; a free movement of ideas... the impetus to make books seems almost folly nowadays, to extend physical communication beyond national borders.

I remember when the post office did away with the international book rate under the guise of increased security. That had a huge impact on the bookshop's sales to customers in the US. Maybe it's just me being old school, but there is something sinister about impeding the flow of books and letters.

99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up “Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers And visa versa
