Have you tried Xarra on macOS or visionOS? They haven't been simple ports, I've tried for it to feel like home there too. If you give it a try, I'd genuinely love to hear what works and what doesn't.

#Xarra keeps getting better for everyone: more accessible (VoiceOver and DynamicType improvements!), on more platforms (Mac and Vision Pro!), in more languages (German!), with more formats (MarkDown!), and more polished than ever (Chapter summaries!). testflight.apple.com/join/ysbKq74Z #IndieApp

Collage of four screens showing Xarra running on iPhone, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and iPad. Each displays the "Welcome to Xarra" document, with the line "Xarra is your companion for turning text into natural-sounding audio" being read aloud and highlighted. The Vision Pro view shows Focus Mode active.

It's called Mestre! Lets you record screen presentations and leverage macOS' Presenter Overlay, which I love. Now more polished: auto-generated captions, plus the possibility of adding a custom watermark... And a gorgeous new icon illustrated by Raúl Gil! accessibilityupto11.com/apps/mestre/

Mestre!

Record your Mac screen with camera, microphone, and on-device captions. Mestre is a native, focused recorder, not a bloated editor or expensive subscription. It is designed for presenter-style videos...

Yes, I should really be focusing on Xarra... But a year ago I was talking about a tiny macOS app I'd been building: bsky.app/profile/dade... It's been sitting on my laptop ever since, unfinished. Felt like a waste. Back then some folks told me it was a useful one. So back to it!

For those who haven’t seen it yet, Mestre is a macOS app that lets you record your screen with Presenter Overlay-styles (so you can appear on screen like a weather presenter, or within a bubble that you can move around) while sharing content in your screen.

Can you believe it? Xarra has been out in the wild for 3 months now. The App Store is a tough place to get noticed these days... But we'll keep building! 💪 Working on a Snow Leopard update and tweaking the roadmap. Have you tried it yet? What should I fix or add next? #indieApp

A hand holds up an iPhone displaying the Xarra app, with the ornate arched entrance gate to Tivoli amusement park in Copenhagen visible behind it. The gate features detailed ironwork and a sign reading "TIVOLI" against a clear blue sky.

If you've been meaning to read more, or if you struggle to stay focused while reading... please give Xarra a try. I think it can help! Synchronized read-along for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro: apps.apple.com/app/xarra/id... #Xarra #ReadingApp #Accessibility #IndieApp

I built Xarra to help myself read more and stay focused. Using your own product isn't enough to validate it, but if it solves a real problem for you, there's a good chance it'll solve it for someone else too. Actually, that's also one of the messages I took away from the book.

An iPad standing in landscape orientation on an airplane tray table, showing Xarra in dark mode. The sidebar displays a library of documents including "Everything but the Code", while the main area shows the book text with the current sentence highlighted.

The auto-scroll was the unexpected hero. Phone on the tray table, seat back, audio playing. Completely hands-free. That's the kind of thing that's hard to explain in a feature list but immediately clicks the moment you try it.

An iPhone lying in landscape orientation on an airplane tray table, resting on a folded "Art of Fauna" jumper, displaying Xarra reading "Everything but the Code" hands-free, with a sentence highlighted in purple.

I really can't remember the last time I got through that much of a book in a single sitting. A lot of the credit goes to @twostraws.bsky.social, it's a genuinely engaging read. But synchronized highlighting + audio made it so much easier to stay focused and keep moving forward.
