I still feel so incredibly lucky and I am still so, so grateful that I get to write video game music every day. This last 3 years or so have been wildly exciting and a ton of great stuff is wrapping up. I am SO fulfilled and excited.

Anyone that knows me knows that I love to use old synthesizers in my work. But maintenance is part of the territory, and so today my beloved Yamaha TG77 goes in for surgery. It’s from 1990 but I still use it nearly every week!

After years of hunting for a good clean, working one, I finally found one of my most wanted old synths, the Yamaha TQ5. This masterpiece of late 80s design (from the famed Frog Design) is a 4op FM synth that sounds so nostalgic. I made this little demo you hear in the video with it! It's so cool! 🥹

I walk at night and look at the stars and listen to music and reflect on what I’ve done, daydream about what I want to. I think about my friends and loved ones and how great dogs are. The stars and moon follow along with the music, every night a fantastic show with a stunning soundtrack. 🌃

I went stargazing tonight after work like I do most every night. Tonight, Venus ,Jupiter and Mars are lined up and it’s quite the show. After 30-40 minutes of watching, I headed home. And just as I was pinning hopes on the stars like I always do, a brilliant shooting star flew by, acknowledging. 💫

All the music production tricks you might be gravitating to are so easily duplicated. Often one click. Same thing with production “quality” and fidelity. Click, done. I think people might feel the music more with less of the easy result ear candy. Let the song be a song.
