You can do all the planning you like, but if clouds arrive just as the eclipse gets going you might have to improvise. This isn't at all what I planned for, but you have to make do sometime. Anyway I can have another go in 2090. #eclipse

There's a lot going on in this photo! Wales, the River Dee, the West Kirby marine lake wall, the marine lake, swirling high tide, the islands (Little Eye, Middle Eye, and Hilbre - just about), clouds...... And yet it is also very simple.

A different angle from my previous post, showing a bit more of the railings and how the tide sweeps across the wall. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have wellies and know what you are doing; a couple pushing a buggy tried to follow me along the wall, they didn't get very far.

There's only a few times a year when the tide and weather combined to allow this image to be created at West Kirby marine lake. I spent a bit of time trying to move this driftwood, but then actually thought I'd leave it because it provides a natural contrast. Should I have moved it?

I've posted a couple of photos from the opposite side of Penha d'Águia in Madeira, so thought for completeness you could have the view from this side too! This was taken from Miradouro do Boqueirão where there were so many lizards (Madeira wall lizard) it was impossible to count. #madeira

People escape to Madeira for the sunshine, but the rain ands clouds are great for creating atmospheric photography opportunities! This is Faial just as a very heavy rain shower was passing through. I did go back a couple of days later in the sunshine - keep an eye out for that image coming soon!

Parque Natural do Ribeiro Frio, Madeira - conditions weren't great, but at the last minute the sun came out a little and gave me this opportunity I'm pretty pleased with the result - the transition from light to dark across the scene is matched by the car lights from white to red.

Believe it or not, when I first visited Madeira the road that you can just about see on the cliff was still open and we drove under this waterfall. The road is now closed and a much safer tunnel has replaced it.
