Hi! I am a former astronomer, and I switched to data science about 7 years ago. Currently, working on an open-source project called featuring-data and doing some freelance DS work.

This is a good example where the "feel" of data can really vary by a simple chart change - from pie chart to bar graph. While the 🥧 pie chart looks like 3 roughly-equal groups of people, the "didn't vote" group jumps out in a 📊 bar graph Same data plotted below: barvpie.netlify.app?numbers=31.5...

A screenshot with two graphs side-by-side. Left: a bar graph with the values 31.5, 30.6, and 37.7. Right: a pie chart with the same values.

A visualization of the razor thin margin of this election. Of the 244+ million voting-eligible population: 31.5% voted for Trump 30.6% voted for Harris 37.7% did not vote Popular is not a word that would accurately describe Trump or the MAGA movement.

A pie chart showing the distribution of votes 38 percent of the voting population did not vote. 31 percent voted for Trump. 31 percent voted for Harris.

This opening quote really caught my eye: "Meta, the parent of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is the second-biggest driver of internet usage globally. Its properties ... account for 10% of all fixed and 22% of all mobile traffic." Amazing how one company can account for so much traffic.

Few people even know about this; when people are asked in surveys how child mortality has changed the majority says it has stagnated or increased. If you consider that many don't know about humanity's biggest achievement, then it's not surprising that many are so pessimistic about our future.
