Been trying to wrap my head around how well-preserved this Honda Elite is that I saw in Eagle rock today. It’s like a dead stock 80s scooter. I assumed someone must have started re-popping them but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I generally maintain that the big trends in political discourse across the spectrum are reactions to the ongoing organic, imperfect, and often unconscious political movement of society “to the left” which it is now clear exists well outside the reach of discourse.

Been watching the new Little House on the Prairie with the kids and I like how it highlights how central speculation was (and always has been) to the U.S. settlement project. Inspired me to refine my mantra: “the US is a *speculative* settlement project that has concluded.”

In undergrad in the mid-2000s I did a year of product design and I became interested in why cigarettes weren’t going away and so I did my final project on it. I think my analysis from then still holds up: that cigarettes are essentially a temporary portable “third space.”
So picture this: an alternate timeline where dinosaurs rule over humans. And there’s these two lovebirds who only have one *crazy* night to fall in love across NYC, baby! What? Oh, the dinosaurs. No, they’re not on screen — it’s not really about the dinosaurs. People don’t like dinosaurs anyway.

The weird thing about being in my early 40s is that 10 years ago was yesterday and 20 years ago was ancient history.
If I ever ran as a politician it would be on a platform almost entirely about ending govt protections for monopolies/leeches/etc. The great thing is that it works at all levels of govt!

When I was young there were a lot of cars that were socially deemed “for women/girls.” I feel like that phenomenon doesn’t really exist anymore? And not bc cars have become woke but bc every car is aggressively masculine-coded now to avoid being called that.
I wish sports posts could be auto-tagged or something so I could mute just those posts from my timeline (a lot of people I follow post about things I like and am interested in and also post sports)

I just realized that the old-timey American AI aesthetic displayed by this poster reminds me of the narrative around the history of Victorian ornament and machining. It was once expensive and laborious to make chintzy heartwarming decorative stuff but now it’s cheap and easy!

It's especially tragic since the 5th place, drawn by an actual human, is great. Rooster (OH fair has biggest poultry show in US) riding the "butter cow" (exactly what it sounds like).
