If you offered me the choice between sawing my balls off with a rusty hacksaw without anaesthetic and opening another bloody SD card package, I’m not sure I could decide.

Today, swiping over to my iPhone widgets, set up as a personal dashboard, I noticed with alarm that a WhatsApp widget had been inserted, silently, into my top stack of two items (now, three). I consider this as alarming as finding a stranger in my home.

As soon as someone otherwise intelligent says “I could care less”, my brain cannot process anything they say after that.

I’ll be 60 this month. My dad passed away over a quarter of a century ago, my mum more recently. Why is it that no matter how grown up you think you are, you only recognise their patience and wisdom after they’re gone?
