Long before modern courts, religion helped regulate behavior through supernatural reward and punishment. We found that the vast majority of 114 historical societies worldwide held these moralistic religious beliefs—involving many different supernatural beings. 🧵

Americans are growing more socially isolated and politically divided. Our new paper in Applied Network Science suggests these two forms of disconnection may be linked. People with denser, more connected social networks often feel less partisan animosity. 🧵
