After attending a dance, Ethel Glover was walking back to RAF Tempsford with a group of service personnel when she was tragically struck and killed by an Army lorry. 📍Sutton-in-Ashfield Cemetery 🇬🇧

Company Serjeant Major Arthur Henry Godfrey, 419th (West Lancashire) Field Company, Royal Engineers, was killed in action on the opening day of the Third Battle of Ypres. The 34-year-old, from Ipswich, had previously been awarded the DCM. 📍 Wieltje Farm Cemetery 🇧🇪

Major James Henry Adrian Tanner, Artist Rifles, died of wounds on 30 July 1944. The 28-year-old officer attended Rugby School from 1929 to 1932. His award of the Territorial Decoration was announced in the London Gazette in 1950. 📍Bayeux War Cemetery 🇫🇷

Kapral Jerzy Bluszcz served as a member of the ground crew with 18 Operational Training Unit at RAF Bramcote. He was tragically killed on this day in 1941 after walking into the path of a rotating aircraft propeller. 📍Nuneaton (Oaston Road) Cemetery 🇬🇧

Raymond Girdler was aboard the S.S. Avila Star when she was torpedoed and sunk on 6 July 1942. Some survivors were rescued within a few days, while others were not found until 25 July. One lifeboat carrying 23 people was never found. 📍Lisbon (St George) British Churchyard 🇵🇹

Herbert Gordon Reynolds of the Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment) was granted permission to marry Agnes Cox, in Glasgow, on 3 March 1944. Tragically, less than five months later he was killed in action. 📍Beny-Sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery 🇫🇷

An aircraft taking off from RAF Ashbourne suffered an engine failure. The pilot attempted to land but struck a telegraph pole before crashing into buildings, killing three of the crew. Three ground staff, including William McGregor, were also killed. 📍Bakewell Cemetery 🇬🇧

Major Frank Lindeman, 1st Battalion, Australian Infantry, died of wounds received in action at Pozières. Before arriving on the Western Front, he had served at Gallipoli. 📍Bécourt Military Cemetery 🇫🇷

Henry Webber is believed to be the oldest soldier killed on the Somme. The 67-year-old lieutenant was well above the maximum age when he lobbied the Army to let him join his three sons, who were already serving. 📍Dartmoor Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt 🇫🇷

Zebulon Vance Ingram, Canadian Light Horse, was in a cherry tree picking cherries when a branch broke, causing a spinal injury that led to his death. The 40-year-old had previously fought in the Spanish–American War. 📍Calais Southern Cemetery 🇫🇷

Stretcher bearer Private Roy Arbon died in the UK from wounds sustained during the Battle of Fromelles. His records show he died from a gunshot wound to the spine. Two of his mates wrote to a newspaper ‘back home’ that he had sustained eight wounds. 📍Nottingham General Cemetery 🇬🇧

Private Frank Shrubsole, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), was killed on this day in 1916. He's buried in a cemetery alongside more than 3,100 casualties, many of them Canadian. The cemetery's name comes from reversing the word 'Canada'. 📍Adanac Military Cemetery 🇫🇷

Private William Horton MM, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was killed on this day in 1916. The 23-year-old was from my home city of Coventry. Sadly, his Military Medal was announced in the London Gazette in February 1917, after his death. 📍Pozieres British Cemetery 🇫🇷

This Somme cemetery was begun in 1916, and by the Armistice it contained 175 burials. Post-war, the site was used to concentrate graves from the surrounding battlefield and nearby burial grounds. Today, 1,348 soldiers are commemorated here. 📍Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt 🇫🇷

Staff Sergeant Stanisław Rzegocki, of the Polish Resettlement Corps, died on this day in 1947. Earlier in the war, he served with No. 300 (Masovian) Squadron, which was formed by Polish airmen who regrouped in Britain following the fall of their homeland. 📍Warwick Cemetery 🇬🇧

Rifleman Trevor Knox, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, died of septicaemia on this day in 1918. The 20-year-old former warehouseman died a long way from his home in Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand. Today, he lies buried alongside 72 of his countrymen. 📍Cannock Chase War Cemetery 🇬🇧

A soldier from my hometown who was killed in Normandy on this day in 1944. Twenty-one-year-old Private Tom Miner was from Stockingford, Nuneaton, and died while serving in his county regiment. 📍Bayeux War Cemetery 🇫🇷
