Bea Lumpkin by all accounts was an incredible and dedicated civil servant. So was Riley O’Neil. I would submit that there are enough moments in a City Council meeting that we could have separate moments of silence for both of their deaths. We don’t need to rush our remembrances.

The Cook County Medical Examiner ruled Riley O’Neil’s death an “accident” but in every way it was the result of specific policy and infrastructure choices made by the city. Besides being an indispensable colleague that’s what makes me so endlessly angry.
