Very sad to hear about the passing of researcher Raul Pacheco-Vega. I did not have the pleasure of meeting him in person but he was one of the most generous and prolific scholars in higher education, providing dozens of free resources to help young scholars navigate the research and publishing.

We received a $25k grant this week from the Lacy Foundation to support the expansion of the Music Technology Academy in the Herron School of Art and Design. We’re very excited and deeply grateful for their support and look forward to sharing updates on our progress.

We received some nice news from Intellect this past week. The Journal of Music, Technology & Education has jumped to Q1 in the most recent Scopus ratings for music. Grateful to work along a great team of editors, board members, and great scholarship from our authors.

One bit of good news is that our department received a $10K grant from the Fehsenfeld Family Foundation to support additional upgrades and support for our community outreach efforts in music technology. We’re very excited to continue this work. We’re also grateful to our Herron colleagues!

We have a new doctor in the house. Signed documents and everything. Congratulations to Dr. Jerelle Austin. I’ve had the privilege of working with Jerelle and watching him grow into an outstanding leader, teacher, and scholar. The Herron School of Art and Design celebrates this milestone.

Committee members Dan Walzer and Tim Hsu with the new doctor at his defense back in December.

Lately I've had to remember that not everything happens according to our timelines. Usually in the spring we get many "I'm delighted to announce" posts. Jobs, concerts, grants, gigs, fellowships, and so on. It can be discouraging. Please keep plugging. We see you. It'll come. Be kind to yourself.

Sometimes I look at a project for months and just feel completely stuck. Lots of data, little ability to parse through it and see the big picture. Then, one day, it just becomes clear. Then the writing commences. Lots of imposter syndrome during that writer's block though.
