And did I mention this dazzling piece on Catholic conversions, which was heaven sent for @michaelledgerlomas.bsky.social to do his uniquely mordant churchy erudition. Lots of sauce and some GK Chesterton to finish. ⛪️🍆🏛️

Barely a week has gone by without more news about university cuts this summer. This feels like a haphazard collapse of one of our -once - finest sectors of employment, export, research and soft power. It seems like the worst kind of laissez-faire policies...is the government even interested?

Hertfordshire runs wonderful history programs & are especially strong on heritage, public and local history, which is exactly what this country needs more of. What's being allowed to happen to humanities in the UK HE sector is going to have dire consequences for generations to come.

University of Hertfordshire closes a swathe of Humanities courses, accelerating the sweeping tide against Human-centred disciples in the UK. Because understanding humans is so yesterday today. With such happy consequences, as we see when we look around us.
