Game workers protested outside the Build A Rocket Boy offices on Saturday, as the studio hosted a playtesting event for fans. BARB has laid off 250-300 employees over the last 13 months & has been accused of installing surveillance software on workers' PCs to root out "saboteurs" within the company

It's finally here!! Can't wait to welcome @socialmediaandsociety.org to Glasgow 🎉 Please do come along if you are interested in social media, society, or cool interesting people in general!!

ROCKSTAR UPDATE: Keir Starmer was just asked about the Rockstar firings in Parliament today where he described the situation as "deeply concerning" and promised it would be looked into by government ministers. Not that a Starmer promise is worth much, mind.

Video game giant Rockstar has sacked more than 30 workers across the UK, including my constituents working at their Edinburgh office. I urged Ministers to support workers who have lost their jobs, and stop this from happening again.

"Epic says that until the end of 2026, creators will earn 100% of the V-Bucks value from sales made in their islands, with this changing to 50% in 2027". Oof, sounds like we've got another Roblox-esque child labour exploitation machine on our hands 🙃

Fortnite will soon let island creators make money by selling in-game items, and pay to promote their island in a new Sponsored Row in the Discover menu. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/fortnit...

Last week, I presented part of my PhD research at the ILERA European Congress 2025, in a session on precarious work! Thanks to the organisers and fellow panellists for their lovely questions!

Me presenting my slides on a screen to a room of people.

Please submit a paper, poster, or workshop proposal and come see us in Glasgow if you're interested! ❤️

Graphic that calls for participation in an anonymous interview. It reads: 'Calling all Scottish video game professionals! As a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, I'm diving into the dynamics of workplace relationships and working conditions in your industry. Join me for an insightful interview and share your experiences—your voice matters for the future of Scottish video games! Dm me or email me at d.jordan.1@research.gla.ac.uk'

Back in 2021, PMG reported on the unseen games industry crunch taking place at outsourcing studios in SE Asia. Since then, the companies we looked at have continued to work on some of the biggest games in the world, without any push to improve the conditions of the artists doing that work. (1/7)

The video thumbnail for PMG's original documentary, showing a white, American hand clasping cash in exchange for the labour of a Southeast Asian workforce, represented here as being weighed down by their immense workload.

The survey is now CLOSED 🛑 Thanks again to everyone who took part! I am looking forward to a good few months of poring over the data 📊 My DMs are open if you would also like to take part in an interview about your experiences some time in the future!

Graphic that reads 'Thank you so much! 120 wonderful people took part in the survey! Stay tuned for updates!'
