I believe we have officially reached the parenting stage where rather than worrying about our kid feeling abandoned by us sometimes, we are routinely abandoned by our kid. He announced a few days ago he was going to his cousin for the week, and has since communicated in rare single-word texts.

בן13 קיבל משימת קריאה באנגלית לחופש - בחירה בין ארבעה או חמישה ספרים. כולם כאחד נראים לי כמו מעין ספרי "ראשית קריאה" שנכתבו במיוחד עבור תלמידי esl. אף אחד מהם לא מרגיש כמו ספר "אמיתי". אני ממש מתוסכלת שלא נותנים להם לפחות את האופציה לקרוא יצירת ספרות אמיתית באנגלית, אפילו אם כזו לגיל צעיר יותר.

Teen tried to shock me today by saying he might get a Mohawk. When I was unimpressed he said he would dye it green. Then that he'd get a piercing. He was rather disappointed when my responses to all of this were "sure, if you want". Now I worry I'm not giving him a safe outlet for teen rebellion.

The funniest thing about this is that my husband is so terrible at hearing accents that for the 6.5 years we lived in Providence (or Prahvuhdence, I should say) he absolutely didn't believe me that there was a Rhode Island accent. He didn't hear it.

I am completely and utterly baffled by the accents on the Real Housewives of Rhode Island women. It’s like Italian Jersey + Boston??? My brain can’t comprehend it.
