Theme reveal for Issue 8: FEAR!

Submissions open in just over 2 weeks from August 21 to September 25

What do we fear? What we cannot understand? Cannot name, see, or control? The unknown has always haunted us, from childhood monsters under the bed to the dread that follows us into adulthood. Inevitable things we cannot control like loss, death, and grief.

What does fear reveal? How do we respond? Do we run, fight, or hide? Does it make us cruel, compassionate, reckless, resilient? For Issue 8 we’re exploring fear in all its forms. Show us existential dread, childhood terrors, the horrors of being human.

As before, we’re pairing the theme with our inherent focus: the gritty, the mundane, the uncomfortable, the human. Fear is universal, but the way we live with it is personal.

So tell us, what do you fear?

Me and J are off on an impromptu family ride with my dad today. I’ve given him assurances about the route, the wind and that I’ll ride his bike back up the climbs for him if the battery dies. May regret that later… #cycling

Grim 3am. Rogue locum rejecting sleep meds at precisely the worst time because he doesn’t know your story & the real doctors are off doing summer things. Another thing to add to the shit list about this season. Thankfully sorted now but my word, autumn cannot come soon enough. Bring on the dark.

Summer SAD. Not spoken about enough, assumed to be depression like its winter equivalent. In reality it’s days & nights of dread, agitation & severe anxiety in response to the light, the noise, the numerous things that are screaming around you. 2 hours sleep last night. It’s going to be a long day.
