also, who could have possibly predicted that the damage was all the result of flawed installation except anyone with eyes?
FLASH: Justice Dept seeks to dismiss Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool criminal case against former Olympian David Hearn Trump Admin acknowledges: "Damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in June 2026 was the result of flawed installation by the contractor"
charging someone with a crime and then doing the investigating is not exactly a sound tactic
BREAKING: The Trump administration has moved to drop its felony Reflecting Pool case against a former Olympic canoeist, admitting their allegations against David "Davey" Hearn don't hold water.

counterpoint: don’t require folks to come into the office (for jobs that can be done remotely) on hot af days
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com “The man who wears shorts to the office is telling everybody that he wants to be somewhere else,” David Coggins writes. “The fact that he really does want to be somewhere else does not excuse this.”
it has made its way to NYC. it’s so good, you guys.
i built my first thing in the woodshop in a minute and holy shit i cannot wait to show it to you all
there is a reason i spent so much time on the @ire.org board of directors studying and (successfully) pushing for a stronger conference code of conduct.
43% of women surveyed said they experienced unwelcome sexual advances or harassment from a colleague or editor (6% of men). I don’t think most of our industry understands how much impact this has on newsgathering. A predator makes editorial decisions like a predator. www.ire.org/2026/07/30/f...
once again, i need to point out that when cops refer to someone on the force as just one bad apple that the full phrase is actually one bad apple can spoils the bunch and like yes that's the problem.

agreed but also that American hotel breakfasts are an actual travesty compared to basically everywhere else
My hoitiest opinion is that American hotels are all garbage
putting my wife’s homemade saag paneer in a pita instead of mixed with rice was the absolute correct decision
spent more time in the woodshop today than i have in a long while. needed it more than i realized.
i think about perspective in terms of time that help people understand how recent some “history” is and one of those pieces of perspective is that today Emmett Till would have turned 85 today.
