My brain has translated "Tramadol" into "Trauma Dolls" and I think that's a perfectly appropriate name... particularly as I am from the Jacqueline Susann generation. I am enjoying my Trauma Dolls very much. They are helping with the trauma.

Recovering | David Avallone
I shared this on Facebook... but I'm now strong enough to double-post on Patreon: always a sign that recovery is going well. I'm home. It w

I love a good historical re-enactment.
Happy August 5 to all who celebrate.
To this day, I call the very first stage of writing “notebook work.” I like to go out for coffee and sit and outline. I have a different notebook for every project/series. I never use a laptop for that part. Takes away from the joy, for me. I love having an analog record of first thoughts.
I have nothing to give up. When I learn something has integrated it, I turn off the integration or switch to an alternative. I learned to write and create with legal pads, pencils, pens, and typewriters. I learned to think through words and stories before using up ink and paper. I'll be fine.
I have been watching this trend for decades. I have noticed — from broad polling — that the more loudly “Christian” the US gov. is, the more our citizens get turned off from association with Christianity. The number of “unaffiliated” in the US was steady for a long time, then doubled during GWB.
Kinda hard to believe God exists right now, what with everything
I have not used ChatGPT, Claude, or any other gen AI tool in my work, ever. So… I have nothing to “give up.” Is this really that unusual? How warped is the worldview of the people who’ve become reliant on this garbage, that they imagine everyone is addicted to it.
I have one answer.
I know it’s not the point… but there’s like a million photos of those two guys, and… what the hell are those uniforms? MacArthur is… a corporal? With his chevrons on upside-down?
What in the 5x draft-dodging stolen valor AI slop is he doing? Diaper Girl Natalie Harp needs to take away his phone.
I took this album out of the library multiple times when I was a kid. Bradbury was the first “favorite writer” of my life.
Today is the only day you can experience Ray Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains” on the day it is set. Audio: archive.org/details/brad... PDF: thephilosopher.net/bredberi/wp-...
I’m in room 1708, and just to show this experience has not changed me, I looked up the number to confirm that’s Starfleet’s USS Intrepid.

IMPORTANT CORRECTION: It was dilaudid. And I’m still alive, sitting up, and eating. Thanks for asking. You’re all very kind.

The first comics that really meant a lot to me were those Peanuts paperback collections. I had at least a half dozen of them.
If you’re a comics fan, what’s the earliest comic book you can remember reading? And what kind of impression did it make on you?
For reasons that will become VERY clear, I'm posting the Patreon Newsletter a day early. It's not often you're conscious of transitional moments in your life as they happen, but this is one of those times. I wrote about the curtain coming down on Act Two. www.patreon.com/DavidAvallon...

Just watched the second Harry Potter movie*, and… all moral issues aside, these things suck. The scripts are a meandering mess. (I assume they are mirrors of the books?) *For research. On DVDs a friend bought for her kids 20 years ago, and which I have been instructed to destroy when I’m done.
I was reminded this morning I have an “AI Hater” label on here, and I would like to make sure that credential is up to date.
“AI is the asbestos we're shoveling into the walls of our technological society…. Our descendants will spend *generations* digging it out again, and the longer the bubble goes on without popping, the longer it will take to repair the damage.”

Before Monday, I thought I'd repost this one more time. The question "how are you doing?" has a long and convoluted answer: it's a roller coaster is succinct, but doesn't quite cover it. So here's the longer answer. I'll see you on the other side, minus one organ and that pesky cancer...
I took a long, deep breath before clicking "publish" on this one. Some news, good and bad, that I'm finally ready to talk about. Take a look. www.patreon.com/DavidAvallon...
There are so many, so I wanted to start with the first movie that I watched more than six times. Film you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, Marvel, Disney, or Ghibli.

Free newsletter! But if you wanted to subscribe, that would also be nice. Did I mention it was my birthday a couple of days ago? (bats eyelashes)
Finally finished this week's newsletter! San Diego Comic Con! The aftermath of sharing my "Two Secrets!" And a link to a fun podcast! It's a roller coaster, and it's about roller coasters. Metaphorically. www.patreon.com/DavidAvallon...
I lost all respect for JCO when I caught her defending Woody Allen on Twitter some years back. Apparently she has strong parasocial relationships with (male) film directors.
GEN CON PEOPLE: If you get a party invite from "punch bowl", even if it's from an email address you know, DO NOT LOG IN to get more details. It's a phishing scam. I got one from "Green Ronin" and called them to check details and it's not real, but there are others floating around as well.
Post the wins.

Everything is bad, but books are good. Get a book. Read the book. Cherish the book. Finish the book. Tell your friends about the book, and leave a review of the book. Hold the book close. Listen to what it tells you. Do as it commands. Place it on the dread altar and let it guide your every choice.
Nuke it from orbit. Make it a glowing lake of glass. Send a message, lest another factory for rapey violent douchebags open somewhere else.
