Thanks for the birthday wishes, folks! I've been quiet on socials and chipping away at my next book series. No big news yet but hopefully soon. In the meantime, go buy a copy of my existing books as a birthday present. Keep them for yourself or use them as gifts! Deets in my pinned post 😊

For Dave's fifth book birthday, I really recommend y'all to pick up his books. The Weight of the World trilogy is a heck of a lot of fun high octane mech battling space opera. www.alankdell.co.uk/blog/book-review-reality-check 💙📚🪐
Book Review: Reality Check — Alan K. Dell
There’s not enough mechs taking centre-stage in sci-fi books, and that’s a real shame because they’re awesome. I’ve gained a new appreciation for them since playing Armored Core VI last year, and I ev...

Damn. I published my first novel 5 years ago today. Where has that time gone 😬

Morning Womble! At the moment I'm reading the excellent third installment in the Weight of the World series, Desperate Measures by @davemccreery.bsky.social
WHY Why has ANOTHER new idea popped into my head? I already have a sci-fi thriller WIP, and a sword and magic fantasy series WIP. I have another sci-fi thriller idea (unrelated to the WIP), and another fantasy series planned. I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER IDEA TO WORK ON RIGHT NOW. Sigh. Damnit.
Spending the weekend at Brand's Hatch for the BTCC. The sun is shining, the cars are speeding, and I'm in total bliss
This is a first for me, but I'm visiting a local book club tonight. They've been reading my first book, Reality Check. I'm excited. And nervous. And terrified. Is this normal? 😅
At Narratess www.indiebook.sale I... -tried to buy multiple books I already own 😆 -tried to buy books that weren't discounted in Australia 😞 -found books with promising blurbs and in one case comp titles I love. My neglected TBR is now even bigger 👍😅 (and yes, fantasy dominated 😉).
Last day to stuff your e-reader for cheep cheep cheep 🐦

Why has it been colder inside my house than outside it today? Rude 😂
The first draft of book 3 of my WIP sword and magic fantasy series is done 🎉 Only 12 days later than planned 😅 Now for a month of (where I revise a totally different WIP) before starting book 4 next month 😁
So, I've finally caught up with the Scrubs revival/reboot/whatever it's called. I love it. The nostalgia is real but the show stands up even without that. The balance of comedy and drama is fantastic. And the latest episode? I haven't been hit that hard since My Screw Up. I was not prepared.
Write 1,500 words on book 3 today and figured I should take a break in the sun with a pint. It's the UK, there's no telling if this is all the summer I'm getting this year 😅 More writing later, followed by D&D!
I promised last week that I would explain what's been going on last year. I will keep that promise tomorrow now that my week is settling down a bit 😊 Little overwhelmed after yesterday's announcement so having some relax time
Today is a big day. I'm finally ready to reveal Proof of Content, my freelance service. Case studies and content writing are my specialities, and I built myself a website for it this week. I've questioned myself a lot over this but it feels right. Am I ready? No. Am I committed? Absolutely.
Got the traditional second winter this morning with snow/hail. It was much but it's clearly there along with the rain. That means we're ready for summer now, right?
You know what? How do I become a hot cross bun test eater? That's gotta be one of the best jobs around 😂
I've spent the last 3 days building a website for my new business. I forgot how much of a pain it is for someone who can't not obsess over the little details 😅 Almost done... I hope!
Umm. I'm confused. Is this... Is winter over? I know it's officially spring in the UK, but that second winter hasn't hit yet so I'm suspicious 😂
Okay. I think I'm ready to come back to the socials. It's been a fair while and a lot has happened over the last year and a bit. I'll explain fully after the weekend, but for now, hi again! What's new? What have I missed? Are you all good? Catch me up!
It's that time of year again on the blog: Time for my annual Reading Wrap-Up, shining a spotlight on all the amazing books I read and reviewed in 2025! Check out the post for 21 awesome indie and trad, new and classic recommendations. www.alankdell.co.uk/... 💙📚🪐 #SFF #BookReview 📢📚
I've been thoroughly absent from social media for most of 2025. It's been a tough year for many reasons, but there's been some good points in there, too. I'll get around to explaining everything in due course, when the time is right, but for now, I just wanna wish you all a Happy Hogmanay 🎉
Howdy folks. Dropping by from my extended social media absence (hopefully ending soon ish 😅) to say thanks for the birthday messages! Every single one means a lot. And here's the obligatory birthday sales pitch: feel free to pick up one of my books as a treat for both you and me (🔗 👇)
I said I'd take at least a few weeks off between finishing book 2's first draft of my WIP series, but here I am, already starting book 3. I will never learn 😂
Finished my WIP after 6 months, so treating myself to a celebratory drink. I know I've been quiet this year. Lots going on. I'll be back with an update soon. Hope you're all doing well!

Howdy. Once again, I've been absent from social media. Lots going on, but nothing exciting I'm afraid. It's still a goal to be more active, but I've been focused on my WIP series. Hope you're all good and staying out of trouble (or revelling in the trouble you're causing). Be back soon!
I forgot to share this earlier 😅 I was too busy working on my next WIP to meet my weekly target (which I achieved, btw 😉). Anyway. Plotting Vs pantsing. Yes, another take on it but based on what I've found from my experience rather than another list. Enjoy! davemccreery.co.uk/blog/plottin...
Plotting Vs Pantsing: Which Is Better? - Dave McCreery
The plotting vs pantsing debate rages on. I'm here to give you the rundown on which is better for your book rather than a long-winded list of pros and cons.
