The oxygen goes in, the carbon dioxide goes out. Toronto, Canada.

Morning routine: - Cat meows loudly for food - Pauses briefly to eat yesterday’s food from dish - yum yum - Resumes desperate meowing, as he is *this close* to death by starvation - When food finally arrives, eats a few nibbles then heads downstairs for pets or laser pointer I am a good cat servant.

Some thoughts: -Toronto crime is down -Toronto homelessness is down -Cops don't solve crime -Union Station is fine -It's FINE -Jesus Christ -Why is everything about cops with this dude -Stop trying to scare your way into office -Please don't elect this fucking guy www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

It’s been a traditional Labour Day weekend in Toronto - relaxing holiday activities with a background soundtrack of loud aircraft noises from the CNE air show. In a time of upheaval, it’s good to know that some things haven’t changed.

Did a quick check of the windows in our place. No hail dents. Glad I wasn’t out in that. I don’t know what you do while a severe storm is raging outside, but my response was to play “Tennessee Bird Walk” badly on my guitar. And keep my phone handy so that I have a flashlight if the power goes out.

It’s considered quite normal in our society for cars to drive onto the sidewalk so as to “not block traffic”. Cars have priority over pedestrians, including the woman with the walking sticks at right in this photo. (Car colour and license plate changed in image - this is a systemic problem.)

Doug Ford presumably thought of the tunnel idea all by himself and he isn’t smart enough to realize that it is totally unfeasible. And his ministers are too busy toadying to The Leader to question his judgement. I’ve never been a conservative but conservatism didn’t used to be this badly broken.

Natch, Big Dumb Doug Ford’s Minister of Stupid is mad that PM Carney’s budget doesn’t provide $gazillions for BDDF’s uncosted, unstudied, nonsensical Highway 401 tunnel to nowhere. 🤷🏼🙄🤷🏼

It’s not just that the Blue Jays lost the World Series - we have had weeks and weeks of tense and meaningful games and now we don’t have them anymore. It’s a big adjustment. On the other hand, my sleep schedule might now return to close to normal. Thank you for a memorable season. #BlueJays

RIP Ken Dryden. When I was playing road hockey in the 1970s, everyone who played goal always took a break by putting his hands on top of his stick and putting his chin on top of them, the way Dryden did. And we weren’t even Habs fans.

UHN marks the passing of Dr. James Till, whose work with Dr. Ernest McCulloch first demonstrated the existence of blood-forming stem cells in 1961 at Ontario Cancer Institute, now Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. His work has helped launch the field of #stemcell science.

Medical science and research are important. I know this from experience: I had a health issue in early 2024 that would have left me dead or incapacitated if it were not for modern medicine. The USA appears to be turning away from science and toward random opinions and authoritarian darkness.

On Friday, my son stayed home from school because he had a sore throat and wasn’t feeling well. He went with my husband to his office for the morning while I handled our daughter. When he came back at lunch, he was not interested in eating, saying his throat hurt too much. 1/n

On the weekend, I spotted an actual cybertruck near Yonge and Bloor. What’s weird about it to me is that the only thing round on it is the wheels - everything else is triangles or rectangles.

Photo of Tesla Cybertruck. It was black and is all angles.

I think it was Kurt Vonnegut who said that there are six seasons, not four, each lasting two months: spring, summer, fall, locking (nature shutting down), winter, and unlocking (nature revving up). We’re in the first month of unlocking.
