Sure you may feel like you’re not on top of your life today, but are you “two pairs of shoes” not on top of your life?
This week on Bluesky I’ve discovered and really valued this blog by @charliebelllive.bsky.social viamedia.news/2025/03/10/o...

“Give the kids a plaster, ask them to write about someone they know who is suffering, and let them stick the plaster somewhere.” That can’t backfire… I think I lost an eyebrow…
"we live with the Five Guiding Principles and it works for us" according to the Archbishop of York. Oh really??? I would suggest that the words 'works' and 'us' are both doing some pretty heavy lifting here! For whom does enshrining inequality 'work'?! @watch-notequalyet.bsky.social
Archbishop of York - God is calling us to learn to live with conscientious difference. We live with the Five Guiding Principles and it works for us #synod #generalsynod
This blog post has been bubbling up for a while. It tries to do justice to the emotions I sense swirling around me and within me - and to do some theological re-framing along the way... thisestate.blogspot.com/2025/02/burn...
"Burn it down": responses to/within the polycrisis in the CofE

#TraitorsUk #TheTraitors I really want someone to tell Alexander “Look at where you are Look at where you started The fact that you're alive is a miracle” #Hamilton
This is my very favourite subtitle mistake of all time.
Overheard at youth club - “my mam’s saved in my phone as ‘spawn point’”
For Maths fans, 2025 is a square. 45² = 45 x 45 = 2025 Also, 9² x 5² = 2025 40² + 20² + 5² = 2025 My favourite? 1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025 #Mathematics #teaching #education
At the Carol service my youngest responded to “he has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty” with a whispered “yesssssss!” I’d like to apply for this to be added to the official liturgy for the season
Yesterday we took young people from across the groups we run ice skating. I’ve done a fair few ice skating trips over the years and there’s always beautiful moments of young people overcoming their fear of the ice, or more confident ones helping less confident ones. Yesterday was the same - heroes.
When I was interviewed for my current youth work role in the Church of England I was asked “what do you think is the biggest challenge the CofE faces re children’s and youth work?” I answered that a church that is scared of decline and so pursues growth at all costs will likely crush or harm 1/2
Revd Angela Sheard & I recently discovered we had a shared passion: for a space to be opened within the Church of England for an honest, questioning, and theologically rooted conversation about the dominant language of 'growth'… 1/2 thisestate.blogspot.com/2024/12/why-...
I was so sure I wasn’t going to decorate for Christmas this weekend, then someone sent us a tiny tree in the post and things escalated and I’m not mad about it (though it’s possible that Biscuit is, just a little)
It’s 1st of December. Mull everything. Mull the wine, mull the cider, mull your tea, mull the tap water, mull the cat, mull the carpet, mull the chairs. Mull it all! Get your hair cut in a mullet. Mull the Kintyre. Mull the halls with boughs of holly. Get everything mulled. FULL MULL AHEAD!
This is the time of year when my kids l get given their parts in the nativity. Every year I remember the time I was given the role of “Patrick Store” (a legally safe parody of Patrick Moore) and I still wonder if my primary school teachers expected me to have any idea who that was.
Upside of Blue Sky - replies to posts aren’t full of vitriolic hate and despair worthy comments. Downside of Blue Sky - the actual real world news that gets shared remains despair worthy. If anybody could fix that I’d appreciate it.
Youth services might have been decimated but tonight in our little coastal town a group of older men in the community came to youth club to teach the young people woodwork and it was sooooo lovely. They all made a birdhouse together. It was perfect.
