Great. The neighbors are texting about screw worm. It was barely a (smoke strained) breath since cyclospora. Give it another 2.5 years and we can have all the horrors of a 19th Century Amazon cruise without leaving the Midwest.

The smoke in suburban Chicago isn’t sweet, like woodsmoke. It’s chemically, acrid, like the diesel smoke that pours from Metra engines. It’s scented of something we’re not evolved to breathe.
This is good stuff. I also want to note that there are a bunch of native fishes that have also incorporated round gobies into their diets, a freshwater drum are one such fish.

The best thing about sharing native plants is when you get updates. Last year, I shared some seedling wild bergamot and I just got this update pic. This is in Chicago and is reportedly covered in native (and honey) bees!
Sometimes in summer I’ll stop and take my phone from my pocket To snap a picture of an ordinary perfect cone flower because there’s a chance the algorithm will serve it to me in February when the colors have seeped back into the soil and I need a quick splash of purple.

You know, friends, maybe it’s time we stop covering SCOTUS decisions like they are midsummer baseball games and instead report on them for what they are: seismic policy shifts that impact the lives of We The People. The President didn’t win or lose anything yesterday, the people absolutely did.
