🎲 Game Designer 🎨 Art/Graphic Design 💛 I try my best - He/Him

It's been a weird week and it's that time of year where I get in my head about whether or not any of the stuff I make is cool. But my mom played Pax Playground and she liked it so much she asked to play it a second time. So that was really nice!

I shelved Tiers of Joy over a year ago because I felt like I hit a dead end on the design. Last night, inspiration struck out of nowhere and I think I maybe found a path to fix it? At the very least, this game is fun to work on again. Lil cakes are back on the menu!

A photo of the prototype of Tiers of Joy set up for a three player game. Multiple colorful tokens are laid out on a wooden table in a setup that resembles tiny layer cakes being assembled on plates.

Went to a wedding today where I witnessed a child no older than 5 seamlessly transition from a death drop into break dancing. Maybe it's naive, but I'm clinging on to that moment as a sign that a glorious, hopeful future is coming.

I loudly and proudly don't use generative AI platforms or give oxygen to slop made using them. I'm not immune to getting duped, but if you slide into my replies or quote post me with claims that something I shared (that is obviously real) was made by AI, I will block you so fast.

Over the last few days, it's possible you've seen a new tabletop playtesting platform show up called Dustin's Designer Den. I would strongly advise against using it. Generative AI software was heavily used in its development and the writing of a promotional Substack article. 🎲✂️

Congratulations to EVERYONE who submitted a game this year, but especially to Yasaman Farazan and her game, Astrolabe! Here's a little 🧵 about why Astrolabe was my personal favorite of the games I judged and why publishers should be fighting over who gets to make it. Let's begin with a story...

Late last night I had an idea for an edit I want to try on one of my games. I initially thought "No need to write this down. I'll remember it in the morning" but decided to make a note just in case. Dear reader, I'm so glad I did because I absolutely did not remember my idea in the morning. 🎲✂️
