Writing about what nature is up to for @britishecolsoc.bsky.social

A roller coaster day following the #CANBill second reading in parliament. In the end the vote was postponed to July. A disappointing outcome given the urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises but some rays of hope from the cross-party support and grown up debate. @zero-hour.bsky.social

The health of UK nature is deteriorating rapidly and today’s stalling of the #CANBill keeps our wildlife firmly stuck in the legislative equivalent of the A&E corridor. @zero-hour.bsky.social Still, the cross-party support for the bill gives hope for an healthy, ecologically resilient future 🌍

The new IPBES report says what the @britishecolsoc.bsky.social and many others have been saying for a long time, that the crises we face (biodiversity, climate, water, health, food) are all interlinked and cannot be tackled in siloes. Crucially it also spells out these complex links + ways forward 🌍
