Who remembers Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark? For Halloween this year: The Girl with the Green Ribbon. Dancing with a ribbon is really fun! Yes, my head fell off at the end, thanks to the magic of theatre. 😄

Me, an Asian American fusion bellydancer, onstage with a long green ribbon.

It took $3.6 million in 2018 to buy a house that cost >$900k (inflation-adjusted) in 1904. I'm sure it's worth $5 million+ now given housing prices in the last few years. That's how out of whack housing is now. (Went down a small Harry Houdini rabbit hole & found this nugget on Wikipedia.)

Screenshot: In 1904 Houdini bought a New York City townhouse at 278 West 113th Street in Harlem. He paid US$25,000 (equivalent to $895,833 in 2025) for the five-level, 6,008-square-foot house, which was built in 1895, and lived in it with his wife, Bess, and various other relatives until his death in 1926. In March 2018 it sold for $3.6 million.

15-minute meals: Fettuccine with cremini mushrooms, Parmesan, & peas in a Boursin cream sauce. 🍽️ Been swamped this week so it's all been "fast food, my way" (to steal a phrase from Jacques Pepin). I always make sauce from scratch but refrigerated pasta rocks.

This is someone who made 6-figure salaries with major corporations & took a pay cut to work for the federal government in order to serve people. Not an exaggeration: The administration & conservatives have destroyed his life.

Trump fired him. The ‘DEI Watchlist’ shamed him. Then came 500 job rejections.

Efforts to purge the government of diversity, equity and inclusion programs have taken a major toll on Black workers who now struggle to find comparable jobs.

If you want good art, you have to support it. Artists will always create, but artists working day jobs create less. We just don't have time & energy. And we cannot cede art just to people with parents who can fund their lives. There has to be room for people from all income levels & demographics.

Since it’s almost the anniversary of “War of the Worlds,” I’ll add that we have the WPA Federal Theatre Project to thank for Orson Welles and many, many others…

Aww. I didn't know until today just how much Sir Patrick loved & advocated for pitties. (I fostered an absolute weirdo of a pittie for 2 years. She had issues, but in spite of how broken she was, she still made me an advocate for pitties in general. They're great dogs.)

Patrick Stewart petting a very happy pittie.

I'm tired of hearing excuses about "well that model wasn't that great" or "the product is responsible [not the execs who released it]." We all know the best realistic scenario is that OpenAI pays this woman's parents a few dollars. Really OpenAI execs should be held liable for this woman's death.

Gut punch of a story about an Amazon engineer who trusted ChatGPT-4o to manage and reduce her seizure med dosages. You'd hope someone who made it into a top engineering position would have known the limits of AI circa May 2024 www.nytimes.com/2026/10/27/w...

Average Trump scandal: many people dead after uncontroversial government program illegally cut by doge for nonexistent savings Average mamdani scandal: he’s playing BASKETBALL with his FRIENDS

Half my style is "bellydancer, offstage." 😂 A lot of my dance practice clothes & jewelry styles have worked their way into my normal wardrobe. For ex: Armbands in the summer, piles of bangles, bellbottoms in stretch cotton/bamboo long before they became cool again. Feels good, because I can move.

As you dabble in this aesthetic, pay attention to how you feel. A lot of clothing ends up in landfills not because they bear some material defect, but because the person didn't feel good in the clothes. Thus, pay attention to what I call "emotional durability." dieworkwear.com/2020/08/01/o...

You all. I just learned that shark eggs get really wild! This is real but incredibly bizarre. It's a Port Jackson shark egg. The sharks pick up the eggs with their mouths & screw them into rock crevices so they don't wash away. They hatch from there. ... It looks kind of like a sex toy? 🤣

Internet photo: Spiral shark egg.

Wow. Treasury.gov is now requiring users to log in through ID.me - already a lot because it requires you to take a photo of your passport or driver's license through their app + take a "live video selfie" or video chat with an agent. It's so much personally identifiable data & kind of invasive.

Unpopular take, but the Gifted program was a lifeline for me as an Asian immigrant kid in a blue-collar town where a lot of kids' (almost entirely white) parents had gone to the same school. I didn't get bullied there, & it was OK to be smart & curious. Those things were not OK in school at large.
