We are a group of students, lecturers, and professors from historical institutes at the University of Vienna. In a series of events, we want to ask how civil protests can reshape political practice and how grassroots activism functions without leaders.
Authoritarian attacks on science and academics, as seen in Orbán's Hungary and still unfolding in Turkey, the U.S., and many other countries, are likely to only increase in the coming years, including in liberal democracies. It's time to brace ourselves and, for once, get ahead of the curve. 3/3
Aside from the guide, the EU-funded OPEN COST Action network (www.au.dk/opencostaction) has launched a mentorship program assisting academics under attack and organizes training events for volunteers. Please refer to academicresilience.eu for more information and additional resources. 2/3
Today, a launch event for the "Pocket Guide for Academics under Attack" was held in Vienna.
