DDD17 - Day 3! And the winner is.... No conference is complete without an awards ceremony. Evie King (who presented at DDD17) wins the 2025 ASDS Book Award for her book Ashes to Admin. Congrats to all the winners!

Day 3 at DDD17! Another day, another wonderful panel on 'Education and support in learning to cope with death.' Among other fascinating presentations, Galina Arbeli and Anne Cohen Kirah present the results from their 'Designing for end of life' classes.

Day 2 at DDD17 - The Politics of Death Lively discussions going on at the roundtable on Legal Frameworks for Death Practices. Is the term 'body of deceased' instead of 'corpse' sugarcoating things or does this change open up a vision of death being a process, a transition.

DAY 2 OF DDD17! Nilou Davoudi presents her fascinating work on Digital Dignity of the Dead (another DDD 😊). ‘Escalating erosion of dignity of the dead on TikTok, where AI generated videos of deceased children and even babies are spread. The scale, speed and accessibility are unprecedented.’

DDD17 - The Politics of Death conference is officially on its way with nearly 400 participants from 41 countries. Dr Kami Fletcher set the stage for an amazing conference with her keynote lecture on the power of African American mourning rituals.

DDD17 Bookclub! Evie King tells us about her beautiful book Ashes to Admin. Evie is a local council worker who carries funerals for those with nobody around, willing or able to bury or cremate them. ‘Who are the people who end up with me? You, me, everyone. Life happens.’
