Freight transport is a major emissions source—but national policies aren’t keeping up. Our latest research across 11 countries shows a clear pattern: while infrastructure is being built, the policies to manage and align it with climate goals are often missing.

Freight transportation is already responsible for at least 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and could become the highest polluting economic sector by 2050 in a business-as-usual scenario.
