sometimes I post a WIP and I see people liking it fast/reposting it and I know I'm onto something cool. Happened with my two previous mixed-media pieces too, which leads me to believe : I'm cracked (but most importantly, that I've improved a lot :D )

fun fact, my main Krita brush uses an overexposed squished picture of Albert (one of our cats) as a preview

I suddenly remembered my "worked on a topdown rpg fangame" roots and made a funny character for the occasion #pixelart Guess their name could be uhh. Idk, they feel clover-themed now that I look at them closer?
Update on the ongoing piece : I maged to make fun-looking 3D tree trunks. However. I suck at foliage. Oops. Silly me! I'll try a 2D plane with a handdrawn displacement map tomorrow... Or a normal map if I figure out how to draw with tangent space colours

Repost of one of my favourite #pixelart pieces while I try to get back into art ~ AVM means Arterioveinous Malformation It's a lil' lump of veins and arteries and I have one in me brains (3x2 cm), which causes a few sight impairments (rare retinal migraines + small shimmering spot)
The main thing I learned from looking at trees yesterday is that Square's artists, especially the KH team, were some of the best at their craft. I really wish more modern games took cues from that and that we'd get a bigger push from big studios to have part of those stylized pipelines back

UVs rarely align properly with branches because no one's gonna look at them. Stylized often use vertex colours on branchplanes (skyward sword). Demon Tides uses billboards for foliage
It's done! 4 colour #pixelart (plus transparency/background), mouse & keyboard, one layer and made with Aseprite :)

Okay, so. I spent a good amount of time today looking at lowpoly trees on noclip.website to see if I was missing some incredible videogame tree tech or if a stylized tree was hard to make and I'm feeling a LOT better about my trees, lol. I'm just stupid for making a piece that uses trees and fire

I'm just really happy to see the little guys resonate a lot with people. I still don't know if I want to do anything with them, or what that'd be, but it feels good to just lay passing thoughts on a canvas :)

no idea what to do for the moth cat piece at the moment, so I'll try to work on composition today. BUT! I managed to make a silly little tiling texture using a streetview screen of the town I was born in.
