So, Arizona got its first Buc-ees recently. It's 74,000 square feet. My wife and I visited yesterday, and listen: this place looks like an AI-generated fever dream. It's like the shop part of Cracker Barrel plus a food court plus a grocery store plus a gas station.

I should probably first fix the animation stuff before I start developing an entirely new feature... Trying to adapt a 3D model to work with custom animations sucks so much, though...
🧵 Blacksky is looking to buy a server for $30k USD. We'd like the following specs or better: - 384 GB RAM - 80 TB NVMe; ZFS RAIDZ2 in 2 vdevs - 1 Gbps + 10 Gpbs burstable - at least 84 threads for the CPU(s) - Ideally somewhere in the eastern half of North America but open to North America and EU
I swear, every time I step back into the AT Proto ecosystem, I feel like apps and frameworks and data have advanced ten times over. People are building really crazy stuff over here. I feel like it's way over my head, which is kind of exciting.
While I have nothing to show for it visually yet, my #Godot game now supports per-Actor inventories and items! This part was pretty easy; every Character has a dynamic array of inventory items, with methods to add, remove, or transfer. The harder part will involve building the representative UI.
From a hobbyist perspective, #GameDev is all about learning a bunch of different things all at once. This has been especially true in my transition from 2D to 3D game development.
I'm getting closer to getting animation retargeting to work for my character models in Blender, but dear God, it's painful. So much of this is trial and error just to figure out the "right" way to do things. Hopefully by tomorrow, I'll get a bunch of animations working for my Godot game.
My mother in law, a very sweet human being, is finally joining Mastodon. This is all fine and dandy, but the cherry on top is that she called it "MasterDom", which sounds like the FetLife version.
Weird 3D #Gamedev question: when designing 3D environments for your game, how do you put it all together in your engine? Do you design it all it Blender or a similar tool, before exporting the whole thing, or do you assemble it piecemeal in your game?
I'm so tired of being sick all the time. Especially on my days off. 😞
Slowly making progress on 3D stuff with Godot engine. Today's experiment involved staging elements to go in different rooms. Kind of janky, but I learned some new things today. There, uh, were supposed to be walls, but that part didn't work with the Blender export! 😅
Trying to work through random Docker issues has me feeling very dumb today.
The sheer amount of spam emails I get from AI startups trying to sell products to my nonprofit org is insane. What's up with that? Do you just get added to a list or something if you register a corporation in your state?
> Think about redesigning my site > Realize I have to either pay for a theme that doesn't do everything I want, or write one from scratch > Start reading about Ghost > Start mocking up design ideas > Realize this all feels like too much work Every time.
Hey, an informal announcement, but my budget is tight and I’m a full-time student. I figured that I’d post here that I’m looking to do freelance work, particularly when it comes to writing. What I specialize in: open source, exploring technology, how-to guides, interviews.
its really funny that atproto publishes a list of every problem anyone has ever had with anybody
I'm not going to sugar coat it. Black Mirror episodes like this make me want to blow up corporate buildings.
Everybody wants to build decentralized Tiktok, but all I really want is to watch all the time-wasting crap I love on Tiktok there. Bring me Monty Python, 8 of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Graham Norton, and Columbo clips to Loops and Skylight and I'll watch it forever.
I'm not sure how else to say this, but... I need to take a break from writing about the Fediverse for a long while. It's why I publish really slowly now. I know too much inside baseball, I'm too dialed in on some really negative community stuff, and it's too much for me right now.
It's the weirdest thing, I don't remember updating my Linux distro to be so complicated and difficult. Seems like it used to just purge external repos and overwrite any core stuff that was replaced by external packages? Now I'm doing a bizarre song and dance just to make the upgrader not crash.

Time to upgrade to the newest Ubuntu. Already, it’s like pulling teeth. 😑
All done with finals! Thank goodness, this was a really tough semester. 😅 I'm so tired. 😭
You know, a lot of those survival / crafting games never account for situations where you, someone who probably never lived off-grid, accidentally eat the wrong mushrooms or seeds. Imagine a crafting system that just lets you make fatal mistakes like that.
The recordings and session notes from FediForum April 2026 are now online. fediforum.org/2026-04/ In our own twist on the "+1 strategy", we are publishing the PeerTube playlist first, and YouTube later.
Every now and then, I get accused of using AI in my writing. It’s weird, because I go through great pains to write and compose everything the old-fashioned way? Any time I write an article, there’s a huge amount of research that goes into it.
We Distribute's hosting provider is offline at the moment. Their team is working through it, but I basically can't access any of our subdomains or email for the time being. Guess I'll just hang out here for now.
My favorite thing about dogs is that they're really like small children. If I turn a corner while eating a cookie, one of them is bound to stare at me and ask for treats, too. "C'mon, dad, you're having a snack! I'm hungry too!"
