I got a Nikon camera. I love to take the photograph. Portrait, street, landscape, event, wildlife, travel. Pittsburgh native, Denver based Go Steelers!
Fun stuff. My wife and I visited a Hummingbird Sanctuary up near Conifer, Colorado this weekend. We will go again Sunday, but here is one I captured while we were there. #birds
On my road trip last May I stopped at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area in Ohio, and I spotted 2 wood ducks perched on a tree. First time for me, and I hope to catch them in a full body pose at another time. #birds
Despite our +90° heat these past couple of weeks our Rose of Sharon bush has been blooming. Probably helps that we have had some afternoon showers here and there during this period, as we have been following water restrictions. Certainly doing better than I am in this weather. #flowers
Captured in Nebraska during Sandhill Crane migration. I have photographed these guys so many times I feel a kinship with them. Their call is immediately recognizable, & the fact they have been doing this migration for 2.5 million years just blows me away. They hold a special place in my soul. #Birds
Female Black-chinned Hummingbird perched in our backyard tree this evening. Captured at 1/5000 second. #birds
Red-Tailed Hawk, Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, September 2025. Found this on my camera memory card, apparently I missed it on first pass last year. I hate when that happens. #birds
Came across these when I was riffing and organizing photos tonight. We can get a little drama every now and then around the feeder. Female red-winged blackbirds and red finches vie for positioning in these photos captured last December. #birds
Hummingbird at the feeder. Recorded in slow motion (120 frames per second). #birds
Hummer taking off from our feeder last night. So freaking fast. This was captured at 1/4000 of a second. #birds
So this Blue Heron asked me if I would do a headshot. I said, yes, of course, I love doing headshots. And then he said “and none of that AI shit either!” And I said of course not, totally real and natural. Fortunately, he liked how they came out. #birds
Going through files from my road trip last November and found this photo of a Snowy Egret at the Jocelyn Nungaray Wildlife Refuge. #Birds
Stopped at the Orlando Wetlands on my road trip yesterday. These guys lined up to be photographed. #birds
Took a spin through the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge last evening, just to clear my brain. Fun to be back too. Caught this Western Meadowlark just hanging out, who then eyed me suspiciously. Can’t say I blame him. #birds
For 4 days last week we took a brief road trip to the Loess Bluffs Wildlife Refuge in Northwest Missouri (pronounced Luss Bluffs). The Refuge is on the Central Flyway for migratory birds in northwest Missouri. I posted the full story of our trip on Substack. substack.com/@deanallman/... #birds
Trumpeter Swan, Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge. The rust coloring on his neck comes from all the dabbling they do in iron rich waters. #birds
I visited the Loess Bluffs Wildlife Refuge in Missouri today. The Refuge sits on the Central Flyway for migratory. It is known for its eagle population and (at the moment) its huge number of snow geese. While we did not see many eagles today, I did spot this fellow who agreed to pose for us. #birds
Female Red-Winged Blackbirds and House Finch at the feeder this morning. The Blackbirds stay grouped by gender. Males will arrive and depart in a large group, then the females. #birds
