It really is wild that not one university press in the US or Canada is distributing that 3 volume Nyerere biography Development as Rebellion. Feels like the most comprehensive work of Tanzanian scholarship on one of the most significant figures in African decolonization would be a big get!

Arguments for largely materially ignoring US intervention on Cuba, Venezuela, and Palestine have revolved around Carney playing 4D chess with US relations. But if there's nothing to lose, wouldn't it be cool to, say, break the oil blockade on Cuba or stop sending weapons parts to the US?

The softest defense of the utility of LLMs, whether or not the utility is real or meaningful, is ultimately an argument that the ends justify the means; the means being displacement, subjecting RLHF workers to psychological abuse, increased fossil fuel use, etc. Surely the ends aren't *that* good!
