I love reading people's stories after @emmiechristie33.bsky.social has analyzed them; I inevitably wind up with stories I might not have read otherwise as a result. This week. . . she's turned her lens on me, and WOW. I feel. . . very *seen*. :eyes: www.emmiechristie.com/short-fictio...
Writer Spotlight: Deborah L. Davitt — Emmie Christie
Welcome to the 23rd installment of Writer Spotlight. This week’s focus is Deborah L. Davitt. I’ve reviewed 14 of Davitt’s pieces, eight of them individually on InkFoundry’s “Get WYSR” feed. (In ...

Emmie has been reviewing people's works for over a year; she sees SO MUCH in people's works. I really do recommend that folks check out her back catalog of reviews! There are some absolute gems in there that I would have missed reading otherwise!
New week, new author thread! This week I'm reviewing Deborah L. Davitt @deborahldavitt.bsky.social 1. “A Mother’s Love” | WYSR Review While grieving the loss of a premature baby, the narrator receives an odd statue in the mail. inkfoundry.net/review/why-y...
Coming soon! @ghostlyverse.bsky.social reminded me that I've been remiss in not mentioning this. . . as soon as I have details on when and where it will be available, I will post those up! <3 Much gratitude to @lyradora.bsky.social for including my poem in this volume!
Hi all! At Waterstone's website and on their app, pre-order "Christmas Horror" at 25% off with code SUMMER26, July 21-24. I have a story in this one! It's about a modern valkyrie, her brother, family, the holidays. . .and the undead. LOL.
Pardon me while I quote, with emphasis.
not saying anything new, but if these folks actually believed in genAI writing, they'd disclose it, tout it, and build their own audiences elsewhere and leave others be. hiding and sneaking it to markets who want no part of it doesn't prove you're good at writing. just proves you're good at fraud.
This one sounds *fun*, and it's out today! I love a good genre mashup!
The Final Chronicle of Yeneh is out today! A genre-bender full of sentient alien plants & portal fantasy adventure. A duke’s granddaughter rushes to discover the truth about her planet’s native life before her family's terraforming wipes it out. www.jomiles.com/yeneh #booksky #newrelease
Ugh. This keeps getting worse. But! I do want to PRAISE the editors of Bona Books, @reckoningmag.bsky.social , @castofwonders.org and a BUNCH of other places (including @thedailytomorrow.bsky.social ) for their transparency when these things happen, and for their determination to keep publishing!
AI fraud nearly derailed our next anthology. Today we’re talking about what went down, the things we missed, and publishing the report we wish we’d had when it happened. Read all about it on our new blog, and download the full report:
The titles in this upcoming anthology make me SO happy. Check them out!!

Live today at Cryptic Frog Quarterly! This poem is definitely in the urban fantasy vein. . . with shades of disquiet. <3

I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of "The Asterist" today. This is not the first @atsayre.bsky.social book I've read; "The Last Days of Good People" was another excellent outing. As in that first book, we have a compelling situation dealing with *genuinely* alien aliens--a rarity!

*snerk* This thread cracks me up, and the replies citing our restaurant scene as the source of our cruel, dangerous magic are ON POINT.
your foolish man stepped into my fairy ring (dive bar) where we tricked him into drinking my dark, evil potion (Jack Daniels) and he is now trapped in the realm of cruel, dangerous magic (Houston, TX)
Going through an archive, previously kept in the digital dungeon that is DVD, of old papers. Here, I found lovingly-preserved submission letter from 1995, to the New England Review. The story is in that archive, too--an attempt at lit fic. It's bad. But the submission letter is an artifact!

I haven't yet gotten to Daniel's Moth novellas (there are five!), but I know him as a writer and a poet whose work I genuinely enjoy (I'm looking forward to his City of Bells novella-in-verse). If you're looking for a longer read, maybe check these out!
The Moth Plateau comes to its dramatic close with Of Moths and Breaking, narrated by Melle, whose story was so much fun to write. When the 15-year-old discovers her family home destroyed, nothing will stop her from confronting the corporate stooges in charge!
. . . I am with Dr. "Bones" McCoy here. Teleportation is probably a terrible idea. Though perhaps this story will convince me otherwise? . . . nah. :D :D Check it out, though!
It's live! My latest #scifi story "By the Wings of an Albatross" is in @adventitiouswords.bsky.social issue #3 and is now free to read online. 🦅 Marvel at the future of teleportation where nothing ever goes wrong on your commute ever again, right? Read on to find out. Quick read! 🛰️
Okay, took a break from the word-mines to read this: www.adventitious.net/stories/all-... @ldcolter.com's story is a dark one--please mind the CWs. But it ends on a note of hope: we can choose to confront the darkness of the past, and do better with our futures. That we aren't defined by tragedy.
