Mum reports that Ms 10 came out looking a bit miserable. Of course her explanation started with “I was doing a front flip off my bed…” 🤦♀️😆 She’s fine though. I think.

As a general rule, I wouldn’t recommend anyone use the new budget insurance companies because their policies are finicky and exclude stuff. But I just can’t see value in a full service policy for my car that does all of 3000 km in a year. Youi, Budget direct etc…eek maybe it’s not that bad.
Left my phone charger at work last night and had nothing else. Somehow turning it off overnight meant that I made it into the office with 1% to go.
Weird mushroom cloud over central Qld maybe near Moranbah last week. The plane shook a fair bit as we went past, although that could have been unrelated.
Inaugural WSI-SYD service today. Would have been a very quick snack service.
19yo friend tells me if she goes out dancing half the music is from about 2010. Yep, a simple reason for that, it’s when music was quite good.
Am I surprised that the Australian trash media is ruining the lush life boy thing. Cute long-running concert segment with online following becomes gross media circus.
I listened to A State of Trance recently and…am I getting old or is it not as good as it once was? A little more apocalyptic than trance as I remember it.
🚨 ABC has announced 'SHAKEDOWN', their four-part Robodebt drama series based on @squigglyrick.bsky.social's book 'Mean Streak', will premiere November 22. Starring Kate Box, Justine Clarke and Mandy McElhinney:
Long sustained applause after Bernie Fraser called on Jim Chalmers to cancel the nuclear submarines.
At the Bernie Fraser Oration tonight. Quite an excellent event. (I do doubt there will ever be a Michelle Bullock oration at this stage).
21 years in Canberra and finally my first change to visit the Shine Dome.
Local chemist in home town has announced on their fb they’re taking a break while they work through some issues with AHPRA. Confirmed they’re very much suspended but no details. Mum just told me how they sold dad some arsenic wrapped in newspaper to kill white ants in 1980, unsuccessfully.
Stupidly broke the extender handle of my trusty Samsonsite carry-on. It's done near weekly trips since Feb 2024 but still annoying to think it's probably uneconomical to repair vs replace.
Watched Day of the Jackal (1973) on the last flight. Highly recommended. A little hard to work out when they’re ‘speaking’ French because it’s all in English but well made, good plot.
I would like to see the Musk movie, although at nearly 4 hours long, that’s a really long time to spend learning more details about someone who really is pretty awful. It’s so far unavailable in Australia.
My company has basically used Dell computers for the entire time I’ve worked there. I was just about to approve more orders but after seeing Mrs Dell (who could have been a side character in Death Becomes Her) this week we may need a new supplier. Oligarchs love to go fawn, the others just as bad?
Kind of amazed how far you can get through Heathrow airside without a boarding pass. They just kept letting me through checkpoints, until I finally found a Qantas person who could give me one.
The Saturday Paper is meant to be a leftie rag (barring that one topic that remains off limits) but kinda surprising that after the new Greens leadership last week they’ve managed to avoid anything on the party this week at all.
@thatjohn.bsky.social Having read your accounts about how bad the BA contract staff are in Lyon, I’m already enjoying how they don’t do things well. Today they told me they can’t do an inter line and in fact, I don’t think they knew what it was despite my attempts to explain.
End of a lovely holiday. Managed a bit over 300km over 5 cycling days. The 90-something km day was a slog.
Went on a lovely wine tour today. Ended up having dinner with a couple from Minnesota from the tour. I was surprised to learn that VAD is not a thing available in that country. Australia is ahead of the pack (within the Anglosphere anyway) on that front.
On a cycling holiday. Day 1: 37.5km, day 2: 53.5km, day 3: 70km. Seriously considering punching through to 95km tomorrow cause Wednesday’s weather looks damp. Let’s see how this goes.
I didn’t check for 3-eyed fish but if there are any here, they would obviously say Bonjour.
TIL French for cul-de-sac is not that same term as you might expect. It’s impasse.
So I thought the booking websites always just said positive things. Apparently not. I’m not sure what The Love Room is, but for €87 it’s not exactly priced by the hour.
And of course in amongst the many beach scenes, that icon The Sunbaker… & Dupain’s weary, frustrated comment!
