I recently turned down on talk on "How I always stay employed", because I said that it's a question I'm not comfortable with - largely because anything after 2022 means the answer is "LUCK". We are not solely in a skill based Battle Royale right now.

I'm working on a YouTube script to go over the major differences I've experienced between working at UK studios and US studios, and it feels like I'm comparing two overarchieving siblings that hate each other, but still hang out regularly.
IMAGINATION Our Contribution to Video Games I love this video so much. @del.art
The Greatest Game Dev of All Time Vanished

This is the best video essay on why the games we grew up with are so special to us. I highly recommend it. Games used to ask: "Can you picture this?" Modern games now ask: "Did you notice this?" Del Walker did an amazing job.

I wanted to talk about what killing game discs means from a more personal and emotional perspective, so here's me getting a bit sappy about owning things. youtu.be/KAJkgZvIEgU?...
PlayStation Is Taking More Than Physical Discs From You

Honestly, if the PR team at Sony led with this stat as to why they are killing discs the backlash would genuinely have less momentum. No game selling more than 275k physical copies is impressively low. I feel like a relic
3 - It also hides more than it shows. It's a one post anecdote on a short form social media platform. Anyways, I can't disclose title specific unit totals, but none of the 7 that did exceed 100k physical units in the US during the 1H reached 275k. But sure, both demand and supply play roles here.
Despite being part of the "I started a YouTube channel before @jasonschreier.bsky.social" club, I still want more people in the games industry should start their own channels. There's a huge gap for experienced folks sharing their knowledge and helping balance the sea of uninformed fan commentary.
I never imagined being in my 30s and looking back on my young Pirate era the way an old mercenary remembers the glory days. They don't know how many sleeper cells they've just activated in all us.
Somehow my favorite videogame essay channel ResonantArc found me and invited me to guest on their latest episode. We discuss the cultural loss of physical media disappearing as well other stuff. Please consider showing them some love with a Like & Sub! Link: youtu.be/OL4tOm-0VXM
If i purchase a Switch 2 game key, play the game for 2 months then want to sell the game key to someone else. Can I do that?
Discless future video, is now up. Giving the lesser spoken reasons why many game devs ALSO hate this latest Playstation decision. ▶️ youtu.be/qxU2K44Tafg

The End Of Game Ownership
YouTube video by Del Walker

I own Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam. I can delete Steam at any time, copy the entire Cyberpunk game folder to another PC or drive, launch the exe file directly, and it will play. I truly own it. I also have the option for digital refunds on Steam. PlayStation digital games cannot promise either of these.
The sheer IRONY of people replying to the news about PlayStation going digital only by saying "ok well im ditching PlayStation and going back to Steam" Erm.... steam.... which is primarily digitally ANYWAY 🙃🤣😂
I always hoped games we worked on would sit in physical libraries in the future, man. This sucks.
Networking helps but the real career solution is a functioning economy that isn't a zombie tech stock facade

New @jasonschreier.bsky.social video is about LIVE service games, but he honestly could have just used 5 seconds of the video.
So this article is just a fantasy draft about which teams you think are gonna lose their livelihood/healthcare? Nobody else's stomach churned seeing this format? Am I just sensitive? "And these are the reasons X studio isn't safe!"
Xbox is in the process of a reset, with multiple studios reportedly in danger of closure. What does this mean for the games they're making? We look at which Xbox games could be cancelled, and which are safe.
Game devs, pre-empt layoffs and stay connected with those on your immediate team. If the worst happens and you're all let go, consider forming a co-dev team. A group of experienced engineers, UI/UX specialists, designers, or narrative can be valuable as a small strike team taking on short contracts.
Looool. Yeah lemme just not buy that game anymore. Good luck folks
