Every time my credit card number is stolen, I think about how they used to pretend to check ID and become weird forensic analysts about your signature (when they felt like it).
Incidentally, "Washington of California" is just everything in Washington east of the Cascades. So many transplants in Spokane in particular.

Fun story: I was single for most of my twenties, so I tried online dating. Before a date, a woman asked for a selfie, which I sent. On the date she offhandedly mentions she asked because I didn't have a Facebook account, so she couldn't stalk me ahead of time to see if I was real.

I'm just a simple country software developer, so I don't know much about "business", but seems to me, siding with the ideological group that has no actual knowledge of or interest in your product would be a bad decision.

A lot of these companies (Hi Amazon!) have dead ended themselves on this front, and there's zero meaningful innovation occurring. At least we used to ship meaningful iterations of hardware (yeah, *royal* we screwed up the software a bunch, but still...).
Micah@rincewind.run · 2d agoof course it turns out that, for all of the issues with AI, this part hasn't really panned out - it has badly damaged worker power in silicon valley, but it hasn't obliterated jobs generally at anywhere near the rate they were aiming for so they're trying to pivot, but the impression stays
