My name is Ian Parr, I am a web developer & UX designer. I have adopted a cat (prev. pony, owl). Co-org #FrontEndSheff / #frontendnorth Also on mastodon.social/@devolute (yay) & twitter.com/devolute (lol)

I don't believe Rob Liddle is kill. Nowadays if you're a prominent columnist / broadcaster intent on winding up lefties, there is often some bigger political aim. Maybe take cash off a hostile state. Spread hate to achieve real tangible objectives. But Rob did it for the love of the game #ukpol

Never forgot what #SYPN took away from us. They were this close to implementing iconic branding but decided to drop the ball by resorting to huge - barely readable - letters. Bit of a mess. I wonder which sadist pushed for the change? #Sheffield

'South Yorkshire People's Network' bus in new branding.
devolute@devolute.bsky.social · 5mo ago

Digging the look of the new buses for #Sheffield / #SouthYorkshire - “People’s Network” is a bit 'Continuity Corbyn' & yes it's 🇳🇱 Dutch AF (we've done this before, *cough* Tramlines branding) - nowt wrong with that. #YorkshireYorkshireYorkshire 🚌 #SYMCA (via www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...)

A big orange bus with “People’s Network” branding.

I don't know why they made Wes Streeting defence sec. I just can't imagine him grinning whilst riding in a tank, as is custom. Not unless it's driving over a minibus full of trans teenagers, anyway. #ukpol

Ben Wallace.John Healey and Keith.Schapppsy.I guess a ship is the 'tank of the sea', so close enough Penny.

I grew up about 6 miles away from where Andy Burnham did, so it is perhaps for this reason why I find a lot of the BBC coverage during his entry into No. 10 particularly patronising. Other politics aside, re-orientating the UK from absolutely everything being London-centric is well overdue.

Here is Graham gloating about "killing all the right people." Just in case you see anyone try to do the whole "we should have decency for the dead" nonsense.

Designers talk a big game about "empathy" for users. But empathy without respect is nothing more than pity. As Big Tech goes all-in on AI to accelerate its feature pipelines, the disrespect for users that's baked into these systems naturally scales up with it. Now it has reached the breaking point.

Empathy and delight mean nothing when the software is disrespectful

Software is now something we do TO users, instead of something that we make FOR them.

🙋 Current party hate you because of <reasons>. 🏃 Previous party hate you because you're a traitor. 🐴 General public hate you because they spent the winter nervously tweaking the thermostat whilst your horses are kept warm. Still, Zahawi doesn't want to dress like he's too desperate on #BBCLauraK

I did some paid design/dev work a bit back on a website that published album reviews. Probably best I'm no longer involved - my delicate constitution couldn't take a ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ review passing through layouts I was responsible for.

Mexicans have arranged their kickabout at 1am in the morning. No use to me is it? The dump is closed. I've got 2x industrial sized bags of grass cuttings, an old desk and 2x christmas trees to get shot of. What do I do with it all now? Form a line during normal hours like a peasant? Thoughtless 🇲🇽

Claude Design unlocks the project manager’s dream of making the button bigger without pushback. Half of your design team will be fired in a month, the design system and branding guidelines thrown in the trash, and the App Store ratings down one or two points in a few months time.

The Grauniad did done a #snowfall to - effectively imho - detail the ambitious UK target of hitting 95% green energy by 2030: www.theguardian.com/business/ng-... As an aside, I never knew Extinction Rebellion fought against windfarms. Bit of a surprise.

Why can’t Britain turn its green revolution into cheap energy? A visual analysis

Labour has approved a wave of renewable energy projects, but turning plans into power remains slow. Why is that?

> “Our online spaces are not ecosystems, though tech firms love that word. They’re plantations; highly concentrated and controlled environments … that madden the creatures trapped within.” Some strong tech/wildlife analogies here from @noemamag.com: www.noemamag.com/we-need-to-r...

The internet has become an extractive and fragile monoculture. But we can revitalize it using lessons learned by ecologists.

I'm after an old (Intel 6th - 10th gen) SFF desktop PC to take my PCIe 2.5GB NC for some #OPNSense playtime. Don't need any GPU, doesn't need to look nice. Can be something someone has used as a football in an office. Where is the best place to pick up such borderline e-waste these days? (in 🇬🇧)
